dr. dre/mel man chronic 2001 beats vs. grimey 12 bit shit

i have never looked at dres drums through a wave editor, but i watched them move a ppm, and there is still quite a bit a movenet for a sqaure wave sound.
this brings up the question, if you mix with with invisible compresion g, and then over compress during the mastering stage, would the track still have dynamic range ? or sonilcaay sound tp have dynamic range lfet in it.?

not all drums are but the two big hitters bd and sn usually are (at least in the tunes i looked at)

well welcome to the magic of mastering- i can only guess that the drums were done very hot and compressed separtly then the track as a whole is limited at 0bd meaning the drums come down in volume and everything else comes up...as dre probably sticks to around -6db on his meter for melodic and treble elements the limiting doesnt affect the rest of the song just hte huge big fat drums that are peaking over 0db...

of course i could be wrong and think there must be more to the sound than eq and compression but in terms of signature sound the heavily limited drum sound is definitely dre's signature

5 3000's......4 for drums alone(since he doesn't want to have to keep loading his drums onto 1)....and 1 to control his keyboards/synths with midi
