2.3 better feel like 3.0!

the main hack we have done at the moment is the internal sd card, the internal "storage" is a bit flakey and has been causeing some people to have boot problems and "recovering from error" problems

we managed to work out the filesystem on the mpc internal storage, its Linux ext system , but the mpc will take any type of sd card and any windows-linux filesystem

the operating system is pretty much lock down at the moment, and based on Linux, this is also stored on the nand chip storage, not the internal storage as the expansions The vault and instruments are kept

some of us have opened the mpc up ,taken out the sd card and placed a bigger and slightly faster card in there, its very simple to so , and hand on wood had no recovered from a error etc

the speed of boot up depends on the card installed also

the company that makes the cpu board is pretty much a small company that has changed names a few times and i belive akai have made a contract with them that they can not sell to any other person or company for a set number of year, i belive standard practice is 6 years. but akai have to buy a certain amount per year, and i think myself that they allready bought there quota for the 6 years, but saying that ,that the 6 years will be up next year or the year after if my calculations are in place, ,this is pretty much stanard business practice . ive tried so may times contacting radxa and get no responce from sales in tech support .


its possible to upgrade the internal ram ddr3 memory, but at the moment i use my mpc and cant be unsoldering ddr3 ram chips and replacing them with different ones, and ive not got the desoldering station that could do it


the som is connected to a motherboard made by inmusic, or badged as inmusic , this has a hdmi place but its not populated, the akai os has a few lines in there mensioning the hdmi but its disabled ....


there is rj45 place also but its unpopulated


the mpc live and mpc x has the same firmware , i dare say taking the screen out of the mpc x and pluging it in the mpc live would make the same results as a mpc live , as the connection is the same, also the qlink board



radxa also sold the 4gb ram version as a laptop type computer ,but finding one is a bit difficult, i think there was some chromebook type machine that used a radxa

A few days ago I compared the missing circuitry around the HDMI port on the mainboard to the schematics of the Radxa Rock mainboard, and it looks like InMusic just copied that bit. I'm quite sure you could make the HDMI out work with a wee bit of soldering and enable it in the device tree, but I'm not sure to what end.

I made that site about the Live earlier this year that some people found, and really my conclusion from all that digging was that there's very little you can do to improve the Live by changing the software. The MPC application is just one big thing that takes everything and doesn't expect to ever be backgrounded, so you can't reasonably switch to another application (it'd happily run a number of soft synths, MIDI librarians, etc, though), it won't want to share the audio i/o either, and you can't extend the app it without the source for it. Anything you want to add to it would have to be something where it made sense to save your work, quit the MPC app, do something else, and come back as though you'd rebooted.

2.21 was released End of April 2018, so it's coming up to 7 months. Would have preferred to see more regular incremental updates that addressed all the little (and big) bugs that they have already confirmed are being looked at, rather than waiting several months for a big release.

I assume it's due to them spending the time on the, er, much requested Splice update.

Ah.. Now I remember. I tought it was around february because I'm still on 2.1. MPC software 2.2 and up are causing problems with plugins that are showing black screen and they are messing up my automation.

We will be waiting until NAMM I think. That will make a year and a half since the release and 10 months since the last substantial update.

Saw these pics on FB in "The Beat Community" and from what I hear, 2.3 is right around the corner....Simon Bangs said it's the biggest update yet...

Simon from Akai Pro says 2.3 is the biggest update ever. Maybe it will feel like 3.0...

A lot of fanfare going on... not getting my hopes up. The updates from 1.5 to 1.8 was incredible.

This is all gravy to me. Everyone complaining etc. I'm sure I'll be there in time, but right now I'm in the honeymoon period, and I'm just using the software only at this point. Coming from Maschine it's a relief that the MPC can do multiple time signatures in a Song, and allows one to jam out the Sequences in to a Song. Maschine can't do either of these things, for me anyway these are much bigger problems than PDC, Side chaining, and automation lanes etc. things that are easier to add in later. Hopefully some of those come in 2.3!

Hope they added some new effects in this update.

Gentleman Dan saying on GS that 2.3 won't be about Splice, so let's hope the biggies are about improved basic functionality etc.
