There's a feeling I can't seem to shake about Akai Pro...

If we were talking about a boutique instrument I’d be more inclined to support your hope. As a business however, Akai will make a decision based on what makes their shareholders more money.

I do agree though, I don’t think we’ve seen the full potential of the Live/X, and I hope that the Splice integration isn’t the only ‘outside the box’ thinking features we get. I just wish we’d get some features that would take these MPC lines from really good, to truly professional level. My 1k with JJOS gives the Live a run for it’s money, and it’s funny to think that I have a distinct use for both the 1k and the Live still.
