Just checked and all settings are fine. Normally the automation lanes would read the name of the plugins but now it just says 'PLUGIN PARAMETER 1'.

It gives me the feeling that it isn't linked to the plugin anymore. This happens to 3rd party plugins as well as the built in plugs.

If it's because of the way 2.2+ files are being saved differently I wouldn't mind editing the project or program files. But the thing is I don't know what to look for.
