Some of those mix session took 2 months to finish. Personally I still believe anyone using over 32 tracks, on a standard song have no idea what they are doing.

For the APC, I hope the Ethernet port does allows for more audio outs in standalone mode.

I feel the same way for the most part. I would love to use 3rd party plugins in standalone, but I agree it could (and probably would) compromise stability.

Either way, whether 3rd plugins or not, the MPC is still an essential part of my workflow, and I love working on it.

It's the best. Top musician, Top Writing, Top Room, and Top Gear. In that situations you learn lot about instrument placement, mic placement, sound stage, and patience. The recording session are relatively quick, because of the sheer amount of people and budget. The conductor and soloist would stick around for overdubs and get the mix right.

Honestly, once they finished, there was not much to mixing because the conductor did that all in the recording session. The longest part was all the different versions and edits they needed. If you have the chance just sit in on the session, it changes the idea of what music is and where it can go.

I tell you this, I would NOT enjoy doing movie score recording/edits. Ooooh Nooooo. Lots of stop, go, hurry up, wait, go, rewrite that part, go, stop, go, play that back, cue the scene, back up, go, go. and the notebooks of edit notes, amount of stems, different formats. blah blah blah!

My prediction...

A keyboard / synth / workstation that works standalone (running the same software as the Live / X), or as a controller for the MPC software. Has 16 pads like the MPK line, and the same 8” touch screen that the MPC and APC Live does. Comes in 49, 61 and 88 keys (it BETTER come in an 88 key option). Allows user-mountable HDD like the Live and X for internal sample storage. Think modern-day ASR10/88. But the next generation of MPK / Advance line.

Would be a good reason for starting to integrate the AIR VST instruments into the software. And Play, Perform, Produce makes perfect sense for it.
