Akai Force Forum: Everything relating to the Akai Force, the iconic 64 pad, clip-based standalone sampler/groovebox from Akai.

Yes sorry it was the 16gb internal sd, I confused the sd cards but anyway it is the same, it just highlights that Akai could put a 32gb sd for example or even more.
I don't understand why they work with the minimum when they could use more powerful storage and ram for just a smal amount of money.
I mean, what changes if we pay 50 or even 100 dollars more?
Think about Force. It is already 1600 dollars, so it would not change so much to pay 100 more and have more Ram.
And of course we are near the limit, I suppose, so not much space left to put more stuff.
By the way, I also make confusion between Ram and Cpu.
What kind of Cpu we exactly have in Live?
How powerful is it?

Yes sir! They knew the boards that went into these machines. Ignorant move if you ask me. I hope those who deal or buy these new machines are ok with it. Im not straight up. A powerful machine and wack crap ram? Nah.

Frisbi wrote:Ah, so it looks like Akai got stuck on a 2gb motherboard.
Mmm. They will have to find a solution soon, its gonna be not enough as they put more features to sell more.
Cannot they use another board?

You're not really supposed to put data on the internal SD with the factory content on it. It's really just there for the factory content The other storage methods work better because they're available over USB in controller mode... So why put a 32GB card in when it only needs to hold 10GB? I imagine that's the reasoning.

I don't know why they didn't go for 4GB RAM. Maybe they got a bunch of 2GB boards for cheap to start on... But the thing is, if they add it now to a new version, they've got two different products in the field and need to consider that when making software updates. And would they really sell more units if it was 4GB? Would anyone who already bought an MPC go buy a new one with twice the RAM? I doubt it.

The CPU is called Rockchip RK3288. I don't really know how it compares to Intel CPUs, but it's not cutting edge at all. We'll see how it handles effects, it'll be interesting.

Yes that's my main point also.
Good effects need a good cpu.
And also good warping needs good cpu.
Let's see.

:Sigh: :Sigh: I don’t get what the obsession is with more ram in the Live/X or force. The iPad was running 1 gb ram until a few years ago. It all depends on how the software is written. Apple still selling Macs with 4 gb ram in. More ram doesn’t mean more power if the software/firmware is well written that won’t matter much. Windows latest update with allow more to be done , do you know why? A rewrite in some areas to make it more efficient. Plus if you already have your pc and Mac with 16gb ram why would it matter? Just run it controller mode for more hungry stuff. Also most of these apps are cpu hungry not ram. :Sigh: :Sigh:

Here we are talking about less then 1gb, because the rest is taken by the Os.
It is the only real limit of Mpc.
Did you try to import a long sample or an audio track of 5 minutes into it?
It sucks all your memory.
So we cannot work with Mpc using long samples.
And I bought Mpc for getting rid of computer as many other did.
Less then 1gb of Ram can be a problem, and you will notice it sooner or later

100% correct. If you're using an MPC or Force to make 1 track. Well yes, you can work with 1G or even 2G of Ram. But when you're trying to do a 2-3 hour music non stop live set, using a lot of samples , you have to be VERY creative within those RAM restriction. RAM does not equal power (CPU). RAM = Content + Time

They'll probably introduce a V2 live/X with upgraded boards and then add features via OS update...but disable these features on older models. Similar to how iPhone does with iOS. Then early adopters will sell the old live/X for the new one and those who don't care about whatever feature they've added can get the old live/x for cheaper. Make sense to me. So basically we'll probably see an MPC Live with facial recognition so you can cruise instagram while making beats.

I dont understand why some don't understand what ram is for. Its not an obessession its necessary like Frisby said.

I was taught if you can blow out your machine even if you think you wont use it all. A situation may occur when you have others over and they ask can you handle this size of a project. You wont hane to jump hoops to answer. You can say yes with confidence.

A hobbyist and a professional's thought process, workflow, and needs are different. It's like a Race Car Driver who pushes their car to the limit and it needs the automobile to operate at peak performance 99.9% of the time. While a regular driver, will drive their car with bad tires, poor breaks, bad fuel, and have a oil leaks for months.

Nah, that's BS boasting for no real reason. Some of us bought the MPC Live knowing what the specs were and that it probably couldn't be upgradable. Honestly finishing whole songs with just the hardware is a bonus, not my main concern, nothing about it looks like a DJ tool, it looks like a drum machine and sequencer from a 25+ year long line of drum machines and sequencers.
Now if it gets disc streaming you'll be able to stream long live sets of stems etc. but it's still essentially a cheap surface touch screen with a dedicated OS and drum controller attached, and the Force looks to be exactly the same.

I'm not at all against getting 8 -16GB of RAM, I just don't get being mad that a glorified stand alone drum machine doesn't have that? Personally I don't throw $1000+ down on anything without reading the specs.

My main reason for owning the MPC is the drum programming workflow, and with that in mind, it's got enough RAM and CPU. If it ever became my only DAW etc. then I suppose I would want more, but it already is as capable as Ableton of running RAM and CPU on the desktop controller mode with the same power capabilities, ( same amount of instances of U-He Diva can be used in both ), stand alone will never beat the computer.

I'm quick strike and I approve this message :worthy:

I don't get all the mad confusion and the chit chat about this new unit.

I remember before the Renaissance came out I was using my MPC 2500 with a secondary screen mounting Right above it. using reasons as a sound hoe. Anyway long story short the Renaissance comes out and I'm in love with it besides all the bugs and stuff like that. It seems we forgot the reason why these controllers were made in the first place. So to make it easy and for productivity to flow a lot more efficient. the Renaissance was out for a while and then "yall the people" all of sudden wanted to go back to standlone.

:hmmm: I thought it was a bad idea. Especially some of the features they wanted to add
to it.

Now it's 2019 and y'all flip flopping around like fish out ot of water. I bet akai is yalling in their mind. Tyrese voice impression like "What do you want for me!"

y'all cats need to go in time out. put your drum machine down, put your computer on pause and take three seats.

I mean this is the MPC form and we talkin about a techno machine that's called the force. What the hell this got to do with MPCs. I get it y'all jealous you want the MPC's to do it all and
More but dam make up your mind . what do you want to do with this MPC. Y'all all over the place.

I think I heard somebody say they want to bake cakes, eat cookies, watch Netflix and make beats at the same time while traveling to the dark side of the Moon. but they can't because of some type of restriction the unit has. I think it has something to do with it can't go out of space because there's no Oxygen. so the unit won't turn on or something like that. Now they big mad.

Somebody please set me straight. tell me why in your best marketing voice I need all this extra junk.

You don't "need" to be making music at all, with any equipment.

You say you are not interested in standalone or the "exrtra junk".
What does that have to with a discussion about the X, Live or Force?

Sure some people will never be happy. But I think the lack of available memory for a device with audio tracks and clip launching, but no ability to stream from the hard drive, is a glaring oversight. And I think Akai know it even if their "marketing voice" won't admit it.

Nevertheless, I am happy with my Live in spite of the "marketing voice" not making clear how much of that 2gb is eaten up by the operating system, or the inability to stream, or any of the other issues.
I am impressed by the effort Akai has put into my Live so far. it does most of the things I want.

When is 2gb not really 2gb, but actually an unspecified lesser amount of memory? When the "marketing voice" says so.
