I switched from the live to the X because of the Qlinks, dedicated buttons and bigger screen. I do miss the portability and battery of the live. I can’t bring the x in my bedroom to make beats but I wish I could but I got my iPad Pro and BM3 so I’m good.

There is another group...people who just feel dissatisfied with what it provides over its cheaper brother. I mean its the same hardware, and $1000 gets you a larger screen, 3 extra sets of Q-links, better connection options, and no battery. You can find value in those sure, but you may not when its said and done. I could take that stack and put it against the Analog Heat for FX, towards something like the MX-1 for connectivity (yes I'm speaking what I have, because its what I know heh), etc. Hell I got my Novation Peak for around 1000.

So Novation Peak & MPC Live vs MPC X? That can easily make the X feels over-priced. Minilogue XD, Roland MX-1, and MPC Live vs MPC-X?

And note that Over-priced doesn't mean its not appreciated or enjoyed. I mean keeping it a buck, the MPC Live is overpriced. Its a tablet with a MPD216 affixed to it but I enjoy mine. The 1200 spent on the Live could have gone to a fully featured laptop that I could load an instance of Ableton to. But I feel I made the right move..and can call it overpriced.
*shrug*

I've decided to go ahead and get the Force instead of the X. No plans to marry it with the Live. I just think that with my live performance ventures, it would be a handy tool to have. I'm actually really liking the idea of rocking two of them with a mixer for a DJ set, but I'll take my time with that. I have other gear that can fill that gap.

Overpriced.. Yeah it is to some.. but so is every IPhone made in history (Even the Touch and Live).. All Akai's products are overpriced.. but even if my X would cr@p out on me I would find a way o put down the cash to get a new one..Why..?? Because it perfectly fits my workflow..

It all comes down to how much value you see in a product.. To some it's simply a tool, to some it's scrape heap of electronics screwed together.. But to some it's the Ultimate weapon to slay the final Boss..

Just a few missing things that I hope Akai will add later this year..

Some musicians have that special bond with there instruments.. I believe I've found that in the X..

Guess that's a whole new category.. :)

I love the form factor of the X and the Q-link labels. I always am cross on my Q-links on the Live, and I prefer the screen in front of me as opposed to how it is on the Live. I get why they did it like that, but man the MPC X is just a sexy beast. It's why I hope for a hybrid of the two in the future, give me a condensed MPC X - MPC-X form factor, but shrunk, with the same Q-links, but tighter, and a battery. Screen can be reduced to the size of the Live's. I don't need the MPC-X connectivity options either. Just give me something closer to the 2500 in format.

I'm still struggling to find that bond you are talking about...from DAWs to samplers, to drum machines, none of them truly work how I want them to. Its always something. The MPC brings out the swing and energy in me, but the setup of the Live makes NO sense to me (hoping to get the MPC Bible next month for my February studies heh), and I end up losing momentum trying to do simple stuff. Ableton works how I want it to now that I know it better, but it feels so mechanical. Digitakt feels soulless to me. Reason made the most sense ot me over the years, but the lack of a good tactile solution made sound design so painful I just lost interest. I just got Fruity Loops when I got the Akai Fire, I haven't used that since 4. It's "OK", but it doesn't excite me to use...its just become a glorified controller for me various drum machines and samplers. I'm looking at the Force and hoping that it bridges Ableton and MPC worlds for me, the naturalness and bop of MPC style production, with Ableton logic/setup. It's actually taking me back to when I wanted to DJ with my Traktor S2 using mostly the Remix Decks. Unfortunately, I just won't know until its been in my hands for a while.

Yep, and people would jump from the highest mountain just to get the next phone
that pretty much does the same things the last phone did.

For me it wasn't overpriced. I really enjoy mines. There's a lot of products overpriced then but people keep buying them. I made my money over for the live and it was well worth it. People will have overpriced opinions and Thats ok

Hey guys, I'm completely new to production but I've been spinning music and scratching for quite a while. I also know some sound design...

will this unit work like ableton, or should I get Ableton suite instead? I understand it will be a controller as well in the future and looks like it can do what the push was able to do

And is 2gb of ram going to be a problem?

This unit looks good for live performance since I do most of my things standalone but if you have a better choice I will be producing some deep dub so not sure if this is the right unit to do so.. advice please :)

Can't answer that question, since the machine has not be released to the public.

No idea, it could go up or down. As far as deep dub, it's really not that hard to create. This machine should be able to do it with no issues.

You're comparing apples to oranges here. To compare the price of the MPC Live VS X fairly, you have to add in a dedicated 16 knob controller with OLED display, a dedicated function section for a specific device, and the price of a larger screen. That's going to easily run you over $1000 separately.
