Hard drive grayed out

Hi.
A college of mine formatted a Samsung ssd hard drive with his Mac book to exfat but in the mpc in standalone it is grayed out and He cannot access the files He copied via his macbook.
Is there anything He has to doublecheck while formatting via Mac, like important checkboxes and so on?

Use Fat32. MAC places files on the root of the drive, they cannot be there, delete them.
