Is the MPC Live worth it at this price?

I’m new to making beats, and it’s something I really really love. I’ve wanted an MPC for a while now and from watching reviews and such I settled on a Live.

I have two options.

A used MPC Live for £700 with a 32GB SD card and 120GB SSD

A used MPC with a 700GB 7200rpm HDD and £350 worth of loops and samples.


though I’ve learnt a fair amount of Ableton I think I prefer to use as much hardware as possible. I’m into making boom bap sample based beats and some lo-fi.

Which is worth it at this price? Or should I consider another MPC model? I really like the idea of being able to use it away from a computer

Stand alone use? Definitely the Live. If you're new, you won't miss missing legacy features and will hopefully enjoy the new that no other MPC has had.

How much is the 2nd MPC? Either way, a tough decision. Being new, the loops & samples would help, though you get plenty from Akai. However, I'd always go for SSD over RPM.

With that said, I highly recommend getting a new one with warranty. I haven't had any problems with my Live, but I did with my Touch. Without the warranty, I wouldn't have the Live now. It hasn't been widespread, but folks have reported returnable/exchangeable issues with their Live.

Great product IMO. And Akai seems to be listening to its customers and updating accordingly and regularly.

Get one with a 512gb HD or a 256 ssd.
Never mind about about sd and samples or loops.
It should be around 800 euro.
For that price is really worth, you won't regret it.

That live is close to a new price, you might as well get a new one. But if it has to be the ones you posted get the Live with the ssd.

Do not put a HDD in the Live, it drains the battery quickly.

Ah, you think HD drains battery?
i put a 512gb HD and my battery still lasts so long I am always surprised how long it lasts.

I bought a Live at launch and put a HDD in it, and the battery drains quickly. When I switched to a SSD the rapid drain stopped.

Keep rocking if yours last a long time, I’m about to buy a portable power brick since some of my creative sessions can last a while.

Yes I was getting a bit under 4 with a HDD and about 5 and change with a SSD.
