What do you think about Sp404sx?
Would you reccomend it?
Could you use it also as fx box?

I'd keep it simple man, you want a vacation too right?

Use the internet you have now and search for mpc expansions, sample packs (there are TONS online : 808 909 303 etc). Load those on an SD or install an SSD.

Hell, put a bunch of your mp3s on there and use those for "crate digging" and sample those out.

You already have 3 good synths in the Live, why lug more around?

What's the purpose of the sp404 for you? It was on my list at one point pre-Live, then gained a little traction recently for FX purposes (as commented though - not worth the price).

Working on music is what makes it a vacation for me. I don't plan on doing anything else but gambling, maybe a mani/pedi, and periodically something my wife may want to do as a family. And frankly I'll throw a HUGE temper tantrum if I'm pulled out of that into a string of non-music activities.

I was looking at the MPC expansions and frankly got put off by the prices. I don't know how much better they are than the matching expansions on the iMPC Pro 1/2, but watching the AraabMuzik pack go from $7 on iPad to like $60 or $70 something on the MPC made me go from "copping a bunch for vacation" to "maybe I'll bring a synthesizer instead". That was the first direction I went, not because of vacation, but just wanting to expand on what I use daily and I figured I could throw them on the Force. I'll do a once over again on the expansions to try and see how much of a difference there is, but for the price to be 8x or more expensive...well I need way more content frankly.

Can you do a MP3 dump onto the Live? I was going to copy some of my joints to my phone for that purpose, but not expecting to get "much" out of my collection (I solve clearance issues by not having anything to clear). If so, while that wouldn't be the end all for me, its a GREAT look.

My essentials for travelling with my MPC Live:
* Korg NanoKey2
* Zoom H4n recorder/audio interface (for field sampling)
* Peanut electric ukulele

That said, if you've got a Nintendo Switch, get Korg Gadget. I had a ton of fun with it on my last cruise. Here's a track I made using it.

I also have most of the Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators, and am having a blast with the PO-33 K.O.! sampler especially. Here I am on a flight where I sampled the flight attendant's safety announcement, and jammed with it on my PO-32 Tonic and PO-33.

Another amazing piece of travel gear is the Zoom R8 recorder. It records 8 tracks, has a built-in programmable drum machine, built-in microphones that sound amazing, amp simulators, loads of effects, mixing capability, and is generally badass. Oh, and it runs for like years on 4 AA batteries.

Here's a love song demo I recorded on the R8 using an acoustic ukulele, the onboard drum machine, and a Korg Volca Keys.

I have several POs including the sampler and the vocal synth, along with the sub and *forgetting the other one*. They actually would be a good idea to bring along, a real good one. They've been just laying their frankly, I've always had trouble getting something *good* out of them, but its admittedly user error/experience more so than the POs themselves.

we'll have a couple Switches with us, but I figured the Gadget on their is the same as on the iPad, and the reviews I read for it were not "kind" so I never invested time/money into it.

The POs are a great idea though. Looking hard again at the expansion pack thing recommended above, I get concerned about being force-fed a song, but don't necessarily just want "up-right piano" or "128 different guitar-licks that don't actually go together". Also not sure where I can get more, the only (2) places I know/trust really are Akai obviously and MPCStuff - open to suggestions.

OP I'm confirming you can use/chop/sample your MP3 collection in stand alone. (I just checked myself because I usually use the software).

I don't blame you for not buying expansions (our guy Tutor has better ones). I bet you'd find a lot of free ones by web searching "sample pack ___" (808, 909, korg, analog, etc)

This made my head nod.

Gadget seemed pretty good from what I recall.
The iPhone moog model d app is bad ass too. Way better than the hardware Behringer model d.
You could also join the sample exchange we have going on. I think almost 10gb of samples including some key groups and stuff. You have to ask Charles for the link though.

This is the closest to the real thing I've heard from apps. I have it on iPad Pro, it's amazing.
Highly recommend it if it's what your into.

Ah you share keygroups?
Any chance to be on the group?

the pocket operator idea hit me kind of hard...per the recommendations here (and thanks!)
I'm leaning towards my Roland D-05, (5) Pocket Operators (Sub/Factory/K.O./Speak/Robot*have to buy that one*), my iPad I'll have with me by default, most likely I'll buy a couple of expansions, I will load up some of my old MP3s to my Live, I may try and do some auto-sampling of stuff in my studio (Komplete, System-8, and FA-06), and I recently joined Splice, this weekend I'll do some deep diving to see if there is anything from there to grab. I'm debating the XKey - it would give me a physical keyboard which I like, but because of length it doesn't fit in my MPC Live bag *haven't tried my Force bag though, that's super tall*.

So with expansions, are there any ones to avoid? Any recommended ones? Best place to get them from? They are 100% new to me, I went HARD on outboard gear, so outside of Komplete 9 Ultimate & DAWs, I don't have any other music software.

PM me your gmail email, Fribi, the only requirement is that you put in as much as you take out. No premium sample packs, no crack software. Share sounds that you would use. If a person has under 500 post here, they won't be added. I figure if they can't share quality info, why would they share sounds.
