Midi clock for multitracking in software.

hello forum fam, i need help with this........ ok, i have a motif, and my mpc2000xl i want to be able to track the audio from theses machines into sonar or magix studio. my soundcard only allows stereo in(delta 1010lt) from my mixer. So i know i have to record one sound at times for my beats. so my question is, how do i hook up my gear, so that the software has the same clock, so i can multitrack audio track so they be nsync?. ( i want my mpc to be the master, anf the motif and the software to be slaves.

do you have a midi interface to your computer? Also is your Motif midi'd to your MPC or are you running both sequencers? Another thing if you are recording to the computer the software should be the "master"

my soundcard has a a built in midi interface, and yes i have the mp to the mo linked, but i want the mpc to be my "brain" and the software to be on the same clock as the mpc.

Wire it up like this:

MPC midi in -> computer midi out
MPC midi out (same pair as the one used above) -> computer midi in

On the MPC, check out the options under MIDI/sync (I've forgotten the layout of the 2k, so I can't give any more exact pointers).

In sonar, there should be some option somewhere as well, but I don't use sonar unfortunately. It should be possible to set MIDI clock source to the input/output pair that's connected to the MPC.

maybe i should have been more clear in what i was saying....... but i already know how to midi up my gear..... i just want to know how to make the settings in the mpc and the software so that its on the same clock.

I just explained this for someone in the other forum category. My explanation is for ProTools, but it should be similar for whichever program you're using.

You should be able to go into your midi preferences in Sonar and set themidi clock to 25 fps then go into the midi window in the MPC and do the same. Midi out is your controlling machine and midi in is your slave. What I was saying is if you are recording into Sonar you want this to be your master. You set the mpc midi out A to the Motif midi In, next you set the Computer midi out to the MPC midi In 1, then you go into your respective midi menus and set your clock speed. This will make it so when you hit record on Sonar both machines will start playing. I hope this helps.

Does your software receive midi clock?Why do you want MPC to be master?

In a setup which uses a computer it is usually best to let IT be the MASTER for tempo purposes, this helps a lot when tracking your beats and does no harm whatsoever!

I use Cubase SX which does not receive midi clock, but can send midi clock out. Therefore I have Cubase as MASTER sending midi clock to the MPC midi in (SHIFT>MIDI/SYNC). Set the mode to midi clock and return to the main screen. The MPC is now SLAVED to the tempo of Cubase. In the tempo field, instead of 'SEQ' or 'MAS' you should see 'EXT' when the MPC is SYNC'D properly.

Operation for your software may be similar.

I'm actually struggling with the MPC-Cubase SX setup right now.

I found this in the search and need help yo.

I've have my equipment set up just as it says above.

But for some reason when I hit play in Cubasis the MPC is not triggered to play as commended by the Comptuer. I can control the sound banks on my Proteus from the computer but the MPC will not play.

I got everything set up as required son. Protues-A/IN---->MPC-OUT. I got my tracks on the MPC set to their needed Midi channels to obtain the Proteus sounds such as "Midi 1A, 2A, etc."From the Comptuers Midi face. I have the Computers Midi-OUT--->MPC-IN.

Cubasis is set to send for Midi Clock. The MPC is set to obtain Midi Clock.

So this is really wack cuz I got everything set up correctly to my knowledge but when I hit play or Rec+Play in Cubasis the MPC aint doing a damn thing but sitting there like it don't give a damn, and that's pretty messed up.

So someone who's been though this mental abuse hit a negro back, word iz bond son. I've been up till 1 Am all week trying to d*ck with this junk and know I aint tripping, ha ha.

I don't know if it's Sound Blasters Audiology 1 problem on the audio end? Beats the hell out of me but junk is gay, straight up. But please holla back and check for a n*gga.

do you have the MPC set to "receive MMC"?

Do you have the MIDI settings in the computer going out correctly? Go into your menu in Cubasis, look for something like "Device Order" or "Device preferences" and make sure the computer is set to send out MIDI through the right device.

Also, go to your start menu, go to control panel, go to "sounds and Audio Devices" and check the default MIDI device.

Try all of these things, let me know if it makes a difference.

Could also be something stupid, like the MIDI/controll er port or the USB port on the computer (which are you using for MIDI out signal) is disabled, which would require you to go into the BIOS of the computer and enable it. I had that problem, coincidentally enough with a soundblaster audigy soundcard. Went into the bios, enabled the port and it worked fine after that.
