1. You can have multiple MIDI controller keyboards to play multiple parts on the MPC sound engine simultaneously... ie: pad/rhythm along with a separate lead part... BUT, that's just one case.

2. You can also setup multiple outboard synthesizers or other hardware instruments to each record and playback to separate MIDI channels, allowing you to quickly switch between the instruments in a live setting / MIDI loop recording, while having each instrument recording to the correct tracks/channels, and playing back on the right instrument... This is vital to anyone who wants to do live sequencing / midi loop recording.

3. Also, with outboard multi-timbral synth/sampler hardware, you can assign tracks to play specific parts/channels on the external hardware. It has been one of the key features of the MPC product line, and for anyone hoping to use the MPC as a centerpiece of a hardware setup, its a key requirement.

Really hoping we hear from Akai soon on this... people like me who have extensive hardware setup / outboard synths really want to know if we should keep our MPC X/LIVE, or switch to one of Elektron offerings. (or get an older MPC unit that had proper MIDI implementation)

Brougham, I'm copy-pasting this into the software feedback RIGHT FN NOW.

ATCX wrote:Somehow, it seems strange that MPC Live / X is without the proper support of Multitimbral Midi IN. Actually all the antique sampler is a functional multimbral midi in. (Akai old, Ensonic Eps, 16+, ASR, E-Emax, Ultra, Pre etc). Now, in the 2000s, Akai's sampler does not have this feature. Somehow amusing that some do not understand what the problem is.

Take an example of a slightly bigger system where Akai is just the source of sound that is controlled by bigger and better seq.
Suppose you need the following real time:

Midi Port (Akai MPC) 1:
Midi Ch1 Lead
Midi Ch 2 Bass1
Midi Ch 3 Bass2
Midi CH 4 Percus set 1
Midi CH 5 Percus set 2
Midi CH 6 Percus set 3
etc.

Midi port 2
Midi CH 1 Modular 1
Midi Ch 2 Modular 2
etc ...

Midi Port 3 - 8
etc ...

Akai MPC / X is unable to do the basic thing the sampler has done since the 90s.

The point is that Akai has promised to fix it, but nothing has happened. It's been too much time.
In fact, when I bought MPC Live I was already returning the device, but the seller said that the repair is coming. There are many who are dissatisfied with the situation. The Akai operating model already fulfills the characteristics of a scam. In any case, they have sold the device and themselves admitted the problem and promised to fix the problem. They took the money, but didn't fix the problem. When you ask about it, there is no sensible answer. It would be pretty easy to say that we promise to fix version 2.X but not. Is it that they don't fix the problem?

Return it or sell it then purchase something that does what you need. In Akai's defense it's not a problem, its a missing feature. It does not hamper the operations of the machine. It just doesn't do, what you want it to do. That's why the best scenario is to research the gear and test it before buying, never assume.

I wanted to buy one after testing the soundengine .... but nope - without multitimbral support the device is useless for me. Its 2019 - My EPS16+ had multitimbrality back in 1994, built 1990 - 30 years ago !!! more than a quarter of a century ago!!! Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!! Akai, this is unprofessional.

Ok I may sound Repetitive....But in My Opinion...MPC Live/X is Multitimbural. Its just set in Omni Mode on the Input side of things. So its not capable of Receiving Multitimbural messages at the same time. Like Three separate MIDI instruments Controlling different channels at the same time.
Im pretty sure IT can control Different Modules at the same time!(Multitimbural).
It is messed up that it cant be controlled in this manner, being advertised in a Live Environment. Akai Probably set it in OMNI Mode because they Don't want it be Slaved in that Manner. They Want it to be the Brain of the Performance.

Just My 2 cents.

when u read this thread, you know why akai simpled down the MPC that much... people who dont even get the meaning of multitimbral, like the symphony example,...pfff

for musicians who want to play live with different sources triggering the MPC instead of preparing everything, and call that shit live, need multitimbral midi, and it is the most basic midi implementation for samplers since ..ever??!
but it could confuse the simple mided, short attention span i....s using their presets AND have to decide for midi channels, is way too much to ask...
instead of, it would also allow easier external control for the key and drum programs, first on my list for coming UPDATES!

sorry for the rant, but i feel everything that made the older MPCs classics, is missing now, cause it also confused a lot of people, that didnt spend the time to get into the machine..

i want multitimbral and editable automation on every single track... then it would be back to normal, at least..

Nah, omni mode has nothing to do with it. If anything Omni mode is what you want it set for if you want multiple incoming MIDI channels, otherwise the synth/sequencer/whatever only responds to one channel, period. Thats just the 'master' MIDI channel the synth responds to. It has nothing to do with whether the synth actually handles multitimbrality or not, and it has nothing to do with any sort of 'slaving' anything.

My Bad...It was Poor Word Choice on my part. I may have been thinkin about "Multi Midi Mode" or somethin. I think implementing that would accomplish what a lot of people on this forum are trying to do. That would help the X/Live receive different Midi Message from seperate controllers and assign them to Seperate Midi Channels at the same time. I'd Be surprised if Akai implemented that in the next update.

Its probably a Wrap! I think Akai will save that Jewel for the Next Model MPC

this is something weve been able to do on prev mpcs for 20 yrs with less ram cpu etc, if they can fix it for this gen of mpcs major fail on akais part, also when is sample latch/hold being implemented, the other 20yr old function i need for this mpc range

Same Name ...But It's Different Company from 20yrs Ago. We used to have Boot Up Disks 20yrs ago, I don't want them to bring that feature back lol. For their weird reasons, they don't want a whole Band of Midi Controllers controlling separate MIDI channels at the same time. They want you to Buy separate MPCs for all that! $$$$

Wait...we can't Latch or Hold a sample? I'm confused. You mean like Note On or Setting Loop Points?
