If you use the mpc Live/X as standalone but you need 3rd party effects to polish your music then yes you need a good DAW.

^ I agree.

I’m working to finish up this next album release. I use a combination of samples, synths and live instrumentation. I can get anywhere from 0 - 60% of a song done in the MPC, but no way I could finish it there. Just not enough tools in that toolbox alone. Especially when laying down vocals. Vocal takes, summing takes, adjusting a note or syllable if needed. Not gonna happen in the MPC. Admittedly though, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I’m down to the midi note or vocal syllable if I think it’s necessary for the song. MPC is more for broad strokes IMO. Not that granular type of editing.

I do love working in the MPC though. But I’ve never finished a complete song there. Always move to Logic Pro at some point.

There's things l just can't give up just to do an entire track on the MPC. Ive been away from it sunce 2012 to 2017. But dam l love doing drums on it. :-)

Now the reason for me saying I chose my DAW over the MPC, The things that I am now use to and have will never be in the standalone version of the MPC. Plus for some reason I can't get my VSTi/s to work in the software. Will I complain about it? Nope I will not go down that rabbit hole, I will not complain to Akai, I will leave it alone and go about my business and use the ultimate tools to get the job done to the highest levels as a professional.
I will give Akai :worthy: Props for making the effects and the screen graphics very nice. I must say, much better than the MPC 2000XL. 8)

Let me show you what I have going on, on a very small scale to why a DAW is definitely a winner for me and my stu. I'm inside the box which gives me an advantage of top level recording of instruments with no noise floor added which adds for to notch mixing. Especially if you know what you're doing.

How could I give up Reason and all the tech beauty it bestows.
I have the dopest Modules, that look exactly like the hardware, and have the exact same sounds the hardware has! Triton Rack, i had that hardware and I have the exact same sounds. Most of the knobs on it work, plus if I wanted I could stack 14 sounds using this Triton combinator, that is unreal. No other DAW does that and won't pull CPU power.

These are just some of the programs I have no problem opening in Reason. I can put them on send or effect inserts, so I need not to worry about polishing my sound.

Image

I can move the wires manually or tactile, no other DAW has this. and do some amazing things with these. I'm to the Point where Frisbi said it's the best DAW. But I know if you get this and study it like I did I is amazing and that's a fact, and it's in the top facts of the best 5 DAWS on the planet.

I kinda wish I would have taken the time to look into it more.

I understand your point of being confused. A lot of people see the SSL9000k mixer in it and all the buttons and backaway. Or the features of it. If you take step by step day by day it would come to you.
I love that it doesn't get screen cluttered. Everything is nice and neat. Having 2 or 3 screens make it sweeter. Ima go back to double screen.
I wouldn't give it up just to say l can do my whole track on the MPC. I could but to me it doesn't make sense. Plus the sequencer on Reason is tight. You know lm big on tight sequencers.

I came up in the large format mixing console era, so I don’t mind knobs and faders, it was the cabling that got on my nerves. But I was never the cabling guy in the studio - couldn’t take the clutter. That’s what the Reason cabling system reminded me of. I think it was a great approach for Reason though - great differentiator the way they approached it. Similar to the Logic Pro environment way back in the day (connecting things to things to things to things), but with a much nicer GUI. People I know that use Reason, swear it’s the best DAW ever, and that’s a good thing for Propellerhead.

Hmmmmmmm well, alrighty then, if they say it's the best DAW I won't argue LOL  I know it's like nothing else out there and it has it's own lane which I enjoy.
I love the SSL 9000J/k, I use to not like the SSL4000 series but now I do. In Reason it just makes my mixing so lovely and easy, I be flying when mixing. I have my template and when I am ready to gain stage and mix, man its a breeze. The filters work, EQ work, Compressors, and the Buss compressor, OMG! DOPE!

Make up gain, all that works, it's freakin amazing. So I can't just let all that Greatness go. Plus I am really loving that sequencer, that's like the most important because I do my thing on it and a sequencer has to be tight. My third party plugins work great in it, I have no problems, only problems I have is FINDING ALL THE SOUNDS I GOT IN THAT SOUND OCEAN I HAVE
The cables are easy for me, no biggy. routing is dope, you can attach anything to anything and it will be just dope. and I love I can automate the knobs on the SSL in Reason or any knobs on anything, the sh** is bananas!

I say this when we can sync up the MPC Live/X to Reason, OMG, it's over!

So I originally started making music in 2011 on Propellerhead Reason 5 which was a pirated version, don't judge me. I didn't have it long, maybe a year before I was blocked from using it so I was away from music until I purchased my MPCLIVE in December 2018. I'm brand new to this, so excuse my ignorance, but my question is this..

Is it necessary for me to have Reason, Ableton, Logic or any other DAW if I've already constructed and mixed everything on my MPC? And if yes, what are the advantages of having an additional DAW? because in my opinion, the MPCLIVE/X are pretty much standalone DAWS in a box.
Man U R on point with That
If there are other posts related to what I'm referring to, please post the link so I can study up, thanks.
If you can mix your songs to your satisfaction, then no, a DAW is not necessary.

For me, as is, I need a DAW. Logic in my case. Reasons? Plugin delay compensation, VCA tracks, stereo panning & multi-output plugin support would be at the top of the list.
