If Akai would get with Spectrasonics IT WOULD BE OVER! They need to do that ASAP! Put Omnisphere in the hardware and software.

Man, if anything, Akai could learn a lot from Spectrasonics. They're one of the few companies that has successfully made the transition from sound / instrument company to a sound / instrument / software company. IMO it's because of their focus on core products - ones they're really, really good at, and making them the best they can be. They solicit feedback from pros in a meaningful way, so that when they introduce new features, their user base is never like :hmmm: :WTF: Every Spectrasonics product has an integration point allowing them all to work together. It's an ecosystem. For a couple years Spectrasonics solicited user feedback asking what the people wanted to see next from them. The most popular answer was keyboard (vintage and experimental) emulation, and Keyscape came to life a couple years later.

Akai however, is all over the place (speaking Akai-branded products - realize InMusic is bigger). Rhythm Wolf, the headphones, speakers, turntable, rhythm cat - or whatever it was called, MPCs, Force, controllers - and NONE of them talk to each other other than general standards. The result is a bunch of products with 2 year shelf life (or less), bugs, :WTF: feature introductions, :hmmm: new products, and a list of missing features that is counter to the purpose of the instrument. If I were Akai, and you have an MPC... my controllers would be able to control an MPC in ways no other controller can. Want that functionality? Gotta have this Akai controller too.

Sooner or later they'll realize what companies like Spectrasonics has... Akai is no longer an instrument company that happens to make software. They're a software company that happens to make instruments. Then and only then will they start focusing on creating an integrated experience across their product lines, and stop introducing these one-offs with limited shelf life that look more like head-scratchers than innovative new products that make people say... Yesssssssssss. For now, they continue to look like the sailors running a ship with no captain.

Sorry, rant over. Back to topic - Omnisphere is the truth. LOL

Is the MPC X or Live fully integrated with Omnisphere 2.6?

Yep - and for Akai - it's repurposed old hardware parts disguised as a new product. They need someone to bring order to their chaos. No wise consumer is going to invest in these one-off products because they're just stop-gaps like you said - not a true commitment to the product. Don't get me wrong though - I really do like these new MPCs.

Regarding integration with Omnisphere - no idea.

Yeah bro, Akai need to concentrate on a few things and stop with all this I'm here and there crap. I was thinking that in 2017. Eric Persing use to be with Roland he left and started Spectra. Funny thing though he went back to get Roland stuff. Magnificent move!
That's why he is on top with the best synth on the planet. Dudes talking about some dam Falcon, never heard of that synth in my life LOL Ain't nothing messing with Omni!
Yo, You got some fire coming your way soon.

Hell naw the X/Live fully integrated with Omnisphere 2.6. Wish it was. Hell my LPD8 works with Omni sweet.

By CharlesRandolph Wed Apr 03, 2019 8:04 pm
They should've released just the MPC X and put all the ideas/effort behind it. The problem lays with Akai Pro treating people it's a regular customer, instead of professional musical clients. That's why the marketing is like this now. I don't need performance demo and fake project FTC leaks. I want the white sheets, manuals, and demos on how to integrate it into my existing setup.

It's like on YouTube, everyone thinks they're teachers or collect gear like baseball cards or showing off all the gear they have. Yet, their music is HOT TRASH! Why do hey have 7 drum machines, that basically do the same thing, and all they're making is 2 bar loop.

Does OMNISPHERE 2.6 allow for sharing of user created mapping controls?

I get what you guys are saying about Akai, but I can't get too mad at them about the disjointedness of their products. Let's keep it a buck, the past 20 years has been a ROLLERCOASTER for music, from delivery, to recording, to production. 20 years ago, there was no Lander. 20 years ago when I was producing on Making Waves, and cool Edit, I was getting ignored for not using a MPC, and eventually bought a MPC, not because I thought it was going to make me better, but because I thought I needed it as an industry staple (blue MPC-1000). For production it really felt like MPC or bust for hip-hop.

Fast foward to now, and not only are there MULTIPLE software DAWs of professional quality on the market, but the barrier for entry has dropped so much that not that many people aren't here for $2k+ devices. Compare our music production to say brass instruments which outside of some controllers, have remained stagnant - and thus have easy $3k+ prices. So a company that used to dominate the landscape has had to learn(is learning) how to not only create products that people want, but bring them in at a healthy price - all the while yearning for the success and domination of yesteryear amongst a landscape that doesn't NEED them anymore. Already have a laptop? Buy FL Studio for like $100 and you are good. You don't NEED any of the products Akai sells.

So they have felt around trying to maintain some kind of market share, creating controllers, some of which are legendary in their own right (APC40), while trying to mature technology to give people what they want, at competitive prices. That's HARD. I was let down that the studio, renaissonce, etc needed a computer, but for them to bring the Live to market back then would have required battery technology that wasn't ready, and flash memory that would have cost crazy amounts. The harddrives would have been "disk" drives that drain the extremely heavy batteries super fast. It would have run super hot, leading to early failure as well.

So until they could return with what made them great, they did other things. I'm not mad that akai released a blow instrument. I'm not mad they released a bunch of controllers. I'm not mad they helped design the Push, that lead to my FAVORITE controller of all time (Push 2) and my latest toy - the Force. I am 1000% positive there is more they want to do, to deliver what "we" want, but keep it a buck, what we want would cost extra money, require additional resources, or require technology that just isn't there yet. There is no "good" alternative to the MPC Live, you have the OP-1 which due to hardware limitations, sucks to record with, you thave the Digitakt, which is great for what it is, but still falls short of the MPC's overall abilities (and requires power), and its all downhill from there (Toraiz).

Most of what we want, requires beyond bug fixes will require a hardware iteration for more horse power, and we won't want to pay for it, so they have to/need to wait until the technology is affordable enough, and they've exhausted the resources off the money already spent. I just can't be mad at them.

*if you skipped my pro-Akai part, this is the Omnisphere part, because I'm long winded as hell*

with that said, I actually hopped in this thread out of curiosity with Omnisphere. Why do you guys like it so much for the Live? I don't have it, and have been thinking about getting it, but based on what I understand (and please correct me if I am wrong), the strength of omnisphere lies not in its presets, but how you can evolve the sounds (similar to the Roland D50/D-05, which apparently is sort of its grandfather), and while that owuld be fine when using controller mode, it would be USELESS in stand-alone and devolve to just a regular synth. Am I missing something?

Lol you said 7 drum machines and music hot trash lol l was never the one to have a bunch of stuff just to have it. All l need is one master it and go.

Mapping sharing? Don't know about that bro.

I understand where you're coming from.

Well l was hoping there was a way to rock Omni with the Live. I tried but didn't get it. Its probably on my part. Cause l can rock it with the LPD8 it gotta work with the live. When l do get it its over!
I know Omni to bebthe baddest synth on the planet and the way they did the new arp is ridiculously insane! Put this wat it has all the stuff you need on one synth. You can bring in personal samples and change it up. The Orb is relatively stupid insane crazy! You have to see it for your self. Its my go to. But l have many others. And l just invested quite a bit of money for new banks.

What love doing is chopping the sounds from it and putting it in the MPC live and going to work!
The sonic fidelity of Omni is impeccable! Im doing some projects and people are loving the sounds from it and the way l incorporate them in the music.

If you get it you wont be sorry. You will probably be in shock a few days when you get it lol

What would it take to map other hardware?

From them:
Omnisphere is the only software synth in the world to offer a Hardware Synth Integration feature. This remarkable innovation transforms over 65 well-known hardware synthesizers into extensive hands-on controllers that unlock Omnisphere’s newly expanded synthesis capabilities.

I agree, except for this part. The technology is there and it's never been cheaper. Also people would pay for it. Didn't you buy 2 Akai Force, MPC Live, and the MPC X? If so, that's over 7 grand. Not calling you out, just saying the market is there for a $3000 to $4000 US Dollar Standalone. There are tons of people here with the LIVE and Force or MPC X and Force or Dual Forces or Live and X.

I don't know you might want to hit them up to do more. Do you have some hardware in mind?
It was very easy to do Roland stuff being he worked with them.
Heck l wish he would put the Roland 3080 in Omni. The hardware sounds are even in Omni. Freakin dope.

@danoc, http://www.rolandcloud.com

Only thing is that it’s subscription-based - some don’t like that model. I used to dislike it, but warming up to it. Anyway, speculation is that the 5080 inclusion in Roland Cloud isn’t far off. Several Roland synths are in it already, including the 1080. One subscription price. Access to them all, and new emulations are constantly being added. Roland is slowly starting to warm to the “software company” mentality. They should have listened to Eric Persing back in the day, and Roland would have Stylus, Trillian, Keyscape and Omnisphere. LOL
