Hello.

First time poster here, the noob of noobs when it comes to MPC workflow. Have been on Elektron for ages, but am trying out new things and MPC Live is the new thing. So far, loving it.

What's best practice for use of drums over Tracks, though? I wanna use just one drum sample per track, cause that's what I'm used to - a kick on Track 1, a snare on Track 2, hats on Track 3, and so on.

But seeing as mapping samples to the pads is so easy, I'm thinking maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. Looking at the examples included in the Live, it would seem that mapping out drums to one or two Tracks is the way to do it, and then save the one sound per Track-approach to bass lines, the synths, piano and stuff.

But I don't know. I just like the idea of using one sample per track and isolating it like so, workflow-wise, fx wise, sound design wise.

What's your advise here? Thanks for taking the time to read this and answer. I really am totally new to the MPC workflow, but so far find it very inspiring to be able to sit down and play things that stretch without any hassle, beyond the dimenson where the 64th step of the four-bar pattern resides.

Ultimately it's your call, in the MPC Bible I cover both approaches in the various demos. Keeping all drums on separate tracks is the most flexible, especially if you want to explode the stems for use in a DAW. However you could record all your drums to a single track and use the 'track explode' option to split the drums into individual tracks later (a good option if you are initially finger drumming your drums).

Whatever option you choose, stick to it throughout all sequences in your project to avoid issues when converting songs to sequences etc.

Check out the MPC Bible for various workflow options:
