why aint u settle with a 2000? or even an MV

I graduated from a 2kxl to a 4k which is a full sampler and has way more features than a 2kxl. I played with the MV8000 and got the video too. But I also got recycle, akai samples disk, my own library, 80gb hard drive on the 4k, live 4 with the 4k. I search, reviewed, read the right reviews, played with akai for 4 yrs now. And I made a choice to learn and stick with it till I master it. I`m for one am not a quitter. Dudes can make a hot beat on gym locker and plastic buckets if they want it (back in the day) check out "Shopping Bags by Madlib for De La Soul" it depends if you mastered your shit. The 4k aint no joke it can be a b*i*t*c*h of a learning curve if you had no mpc experience, only worked with phrase samplers, and no knowledge of systhesis. I don`t know you sound like a herb but it all good take the time to learn before you post your thoughts. Check out the www.onestopbeats.com on producer articles and ask the mpctutor what he thinks.

i know its a full sampler but why not get an akais3000 for like 180$ ? then a mpc2000xl for 500$??

I keep mine cause of the seq edit view mode, the adat outboard, the good sampler, the USB connections, the huge RAM possibility and the IDE connections and off course the very very good sound.
And because it looks nice
..I am considering an MV8000 (+MPC60) tho..

Simply you get what you pay for. It`s like getting a hugo and a trailer and calling it a landcruiser camper. You can get the Akai 3000 and mpc 2kxl, 950 and a MPC 60, or fruitloops whatever in your budget it up to you. However if you don`t know it`s up to you to learn by checking it yourself. Nobody can change your mind if you have a made up your mind coming off that a particular gear is retarded. Use what you want to use and get on with your life. Everything is based on the user, his or her`s experience, and ultimately their financial planning to buy the gear they want.

It always has and will always be about the user not the gear whether the person is retarded aka ignorant because he or she doesn`t know how to use the gear. Simple is best because it is easier to use.

Learn what you don`t know and your game goes up and you can learn new shit that you didn`t know before. Aim high. You can`t have high expectations with low patience. Don`t be a herb talk to the mpc tutor or go out and buy the gear you want.

The question is what kind of person are you? Learner, quitter, beginner, creator, follower, self taught, or take me by the hand and feed me type? I don`t know for me I other care if the person makes good music or not.

Hey why didn`t you buy a beltdrive gemini turntable, instead of a vestax or american audio? Cuz I begun on a fisher price turntable to build up my skillz til I had the bones to cop me the PRO Technic 1210s a few years later.

Here are my reasons why nothing else would do:

The modulation matrix: Ever modulate one LFO with another, then apply that to the decay/filter/pitch of your sample, at different LFO rates per sample? Can't to this on the machines you mentioned (I'm not so sure of this on the MV, but I don't think it's possible), plus tons of other tweaks, such as modulating LFO speed with an envelope, so the "wiggle" gets faster as the sample plays out.....I think of new ways to exploit the proper mod matrix all the time.

Recording mutes: This function alone is worth the price difference between the 2000 and the 4000 (I'm serious). Having the ability to record Mute events and edit them on a timeline multiplies your arrangement options so much it's silly...Where I used to bust out patterns on a 2000 xl then spend the majority of time arranging the song on my computer through volume/mute manipulation, 95% percent of composition happens in the MPC4000, which is how I like it.

Real time Resampling: Ever try running a sequence on an MPC2000, xl or otherwise, and while that sequence is running, sampling a guitar part, a vocal loop, or anything else in time with the music? You'll find that you cannot do it! On the MPC4000, you can sample from ANY source available while the sequence is running....including sampling the MPC4000s own outputs.

the 4k is a z4 and a mpc sequncer. Advanced sampling with usb support. Also a big harddrive, and other options. i have a 2kxl and had to go outside of the mpcs sampler due to its limitations. Im now using kontakt as a sampler and mpc as the sequncer, to be able to have what i need though in one machine would be perfect, so i would purchase a 4k. It all comes down to what ur needs are. Ur needs may only be fruityloops and a midi controller. others have diff usages and ideas that gear sometimes constricts.

I can have 32 or more programs going all at once if I want thats all I wanted but theres more like creative flow there is like a button with a name on it for 85% of the things I want to get to and use with out flowers around with a mouse for this or that damn near everything at my finger tips. take our words for it its worth the money other wise my broke ass would have sold it long time ago matter of fact I keep searching for things that can make my life easier to live with out it so that I can sell it to get that loot back but damn it looks like im stuck with it

I used a 2000xl for 4 years before i got a 4000 (and a mpc60 before that), and the difference is HUGE. the amount that you can do with a 4000 is so much greater in terms of sequencing, multis, programs everything that you can't really even compare the two machines. You definately do get what you pay for, but like everything, there is no point in getting a 4000 if you don't need the features. If you can do everything you want with a 2000, great!- get that and save some money, but for many people who are on the more involved or 'professional' side of music, the 2000 doesn't do many things that are needed.

The sheer capacity is pretty much why i use it - i have the ability to have 60 programs running concurrently in a multi for live situations and that is something that is impossible with a 2k... the amount of time is saves is amazing.

I got mine when they were selling the LE vesion. $1699 for the MPC 4000 versus $1200 for an MPC2000. Which would you choose. I might think about it a little harder if the 4000 cost what it does today.
