They are just throw things against the wall, and hoping something will stick.
They made the Akai Fire for FL Studios and you can link 4 of them together, to work as one big unit. However, Akai Pro can't do that with the MPC LIVE, X and Force. My goodness

Its not about "needing" the hybrid, I can use existing controllers to play things out on the MPC. Its about transferring the the MPC engines potential into an instrument that is more playable - what they did with the Force, but instead of giving us a Push 3 - give us a real keybed and more knobs, opening a path for more readily accessible live synthesis, that doesn't "stop" when switching programs. Less of trying to hamfist a DAW into a box, and more of creating an instrument that has access to the MPC workflow, but is a functional synth in its own right, I could take it by itself to a studio and use it like a full blown workstation due to the MPC Live roots, but I can also plug it into a mixer/console and play/track out a melody using some of the various synth engines built in.
More dreamy/exact for me would be mixing my System-8 with the MPC - a quality synth that has (3) other quality synths built in, but would also be able to sample, have Wave Table synthesis using those samples, had MPC QUALITY pads, clip launching, etc. But that's more specific to me and not a formal request heh.

I guess I don't see it as throwing stuff against the wall, as its what they've done for a while now, and not new. The MPK is not new. I don't know who approached who about the original Push, but that set Akai on the path of designing controllers for popular DAWs, so the Fire wasn't crazy to me (I have 2). Heck the Force is nothing but the APC (its original name) with MPC capabilities added on top...I was looking to get an APC when the Force came out, which is what lead me to getting one (trying to build up my live looping chops, long way to go tbh)...and the APC is pretty legendary in its own right at this point (I guess it was the precursor to the Push thinking about it now).
I mean if you aren't happy with their execution - you are more than qualified to feel that way, but I don't personally have huge fault with what they've tried to do, if anything I feel they haven't been aggressive enough, let me be in charge and there would be a constant stream of hardware in the same vein as cellphones. I'd have a (3) year cycle for each MPC based offering, with (3) different platforms, each offset by a year, with the flagship being the "spec bump" for the next generation. I'd treat the release like Amazon/Google as well, live presentation, show off some other new gear, etc. That stream of consistent money, and roadmap for growth would make fixing things easier.
But I don't have that kind of power...so I'm just going to talk about it on an internet forum...
