People use to fight over MPC 2000 or the SP1200 reissue. The MPC 2000 would runs circle around the SP 1200. Yet the SP 1200 is selling for $3000+ now. RETRO NOSTALGIA gone wild. People talking about taking it back and I'm like you weren't even around then. Because if you were, you'll stay here.

2gb nowaday is not the standard, given that Mpc doesn't work with all 2gb but at half of that.
Even my 8gb macbook pro is a toy today.

So yes, Akai Mpc new generation doesn't even have the computing power of the Asus Zen I bought 4 years ago for 100 dollars and I am using now to write that text

I think you misread what wrote. I was talking about the high standards of MPC samplers in 1993.

Yes, the Asus Zen GPU has more RAM than the MPC X/LIVE. The Minimum System Requirements for most modern DAW's are 2GB for 32 bit OS and 4 GB for 64 bit OS. However, you'll be working at snails speeds.

So we agree.
Mpc is way under the computing standards of today.
Even with 8gb my macbook pro suffers when I make a mastering.
So one thing we could say is that Akai made miracles with 1gb of Ram available.
Imagine if they put 8gb.
Do you know how is the cpu of Mpc?
Is it a good one?

I believe this is it, the 2GB version: https://wiki.radxa.com/Rock2/som

Well it's a quad core, not bad.
But 1.6 ghz is not the best, isn't it?
And usb firmware downloading is it a standard?
There is also a 4gb one.
Mpc.2.0?

Using the SOC, does make it cheaper to build. At this point it's all about the code. If they continue to optimize the OS. Add disk streaming, then give the ability to move all the internal sounds to an SSD. That would free up lots of RAM. I'm not programmer, so perhaps someone who is can chime in.

I'm still looking for someone to write a Windows 10 driver for the MPC 4000.

I don't think it is so expensive to use a 4gb or 8gb Ram nowaday.
But maybe it would be better to have a more powerful CPU, I am also not an expert but 1.6ghz doesn't sound so fast to me.
Better CPU, better effects, that's for sure.
But anyway I never go more then 30% of Cpu on my projects so I cannot complain.
But I am sure in a couple of years 8gb of Ram will be cheap.

That board is from 2015 and it was not a top SOC then.

Again... You guys are comparing Mega Gigs of Computer Ram! I'm talking Standalone RAM. If I need 256GB or more of RAM, I NEED to be tethered to a Computer! Standalones in my opinion are made for handling Small to Medium size Music Productions. If you wanna Record a 50 Member Orchestra, 20 Vocal Tracks etc then you'll need Mega Gigs of RAM on a PC/Mac

I'm just appreciative to have the options we do now. Years ago I couldn't fathom the accessibility we do now. Be it hardware, software, computing power.

I do think it would be dope if DAW coders could come up with a way to utilize GPU computing power. The design of a GPU is is better optimized for handling variable instruction sets VS linear CPU based computing and the memory access timings on videocards exceeds anything out at this time. You have some companies that have touched on it in the "DSP" spectrum for years like UAD, etc. If my memory serves me correctly E-Mu did that 20 years ago with an addon card for the EMU 0404 series, using part of the signal path from the EMU E4 series sampler as a DSP.

I seriously doubt it'll happen as the audio based community, as big as it may be is still in its own sandbox. I can only imagine the different variants of ILOK there would be .

Why? The technology is readily available. Comprise your computer parts, get MPC Renaissance, buy a 10 inch 1920x1080 monitor and mount it to the 2 U Server Computer case. Was going to have a case made until I traded the REN for another MPC 4000. Going to get another try it again.

Monitor: $100
MPC Ren: $300 used
Computer Parts: Depends on your Build.
Rosewill 2U Server Chassis: $80.00

I just bought this one below, I had a friend who does metal work and he said it's easier just to buy
a 2U Server Chassis and mod it.

Yo 40 you're not getting it. Dudes what a beast! They want the MPC to be a computer and DAW. The point is not be connected to a computer. They don't want no latency. Why you think the X has +48 pre amp on it? To do vocals. If another MPC is made lt should have the option to upgrade that ram to 256 if need be. Come standard with 8gig ram. This is 2019 not 1993 lol
Plus you want that machine to last beyong 2019.

back onto the topic. Think aki could make another mpc 500 type machine totally scaled back maybe even just a sample player. maybe set it up with cv outs and gear it towards a portable sequencer for modular?
just a thought that popped into my head. under cut the squid, and be totally standalone really just a mpc sequencer with maybe some cheap added goodies.

Yes, that could work or maybe introduce a more expensive Force.

1. Live and MPC X
2. Force and Force X

well well well look at this Akai. ha ha

Can run off battery too, ultra small.
