Any Ex-Mpc-3000 users have success loading up sounds, programs & sequences directly into the back of the Mpc Live from a USB Zip drive? I got lots of sounds and beats still on Zips that I would like to transfer over without the use of a computer

you could always download the software and attach you zipdrive or somehow get the files on your computer and see if they convert. im pretty sure it works. but dont take my word 100% some small things like envelopes could be slightly different. ive heard that had happened in the past, but they do update things so it could be ironed out by now.

hopefully someone with a 3000 that uses a live can answer your question better than i can.

i can see why you would but definitely some things to think about.

With the mpc live the sequencer is not as tight at the 3000, there is also no midi sysex, theres automation but no automation lanes just yet. it has a 3000 emulator or whatever that doesn't sound like a 3000 but you can mimic it if you still want that. It is not multi timbral but maybe in the future.

you can convert your old mpc projects into the software from your computer via software or just through hardware with the project file. my mpc 2500 jjos projects showed up as well as my mpc 5000 along with a couple songs i had made in song mode. i was surprised.

not sure what else to say besides it will more or less speed up your work flow from the 3000

I’ve been on the 3000 for a little over a decade. Honestly, I just wanna try something new. I’m getting mixed opinions from people on this. I can’t compare the 3000 to other models because it’s the only the model I have ever used (at one point I was thinking the 4000 or 2500) but I feel it’s time to step into the 21st century in terms of equipment but my only gripe with all these new tech toys is they seem like today’s rap artist, here today, gone tomorrow lol. New doesn’t always mean better

DON'T get rid of your 3k, you WILL regret it.

2500 w/ jjos is what I'd suggest for an update with a lil modern tech.

4k will be a huge jump and is based on Z series samplers. None of the other mpc's are like it. Steep learning curve. It is FULL FLEDGED sampler though.

I wanted to get rid of my 4k for the X, GLAD I didn't.

I would drop the 3k for the Live no question.

Its what I did and don't regret it, I would never go back to the 3k, the Live/X is better in every way and its not really close. This is for me personally of course and may be different for you or others.

I used the 3k everyday for 7 years and I do love the 3k, its what I learnt to make beats on.

But I realised it was the right decision (for me) pretty much straight away.

I would recommend it!

And for the person who said the sequencer is not as tight, this is untrue, the same dude who designed the sequencer on the 4k designed the sequencer on the X/Live, its tighter than both the 4k and the 3k measured by the inner clock systems dude!

Although its negligable because all of them are ridiculously tight.

The Live and the X......... come across a bit light in the sound department. It becomes obvious when you sample the same stuff next to earlier versions. And the way they sum into a mix.A hell of a lot of people seem to be totally ok with this so....... Its the grits of full hardware that even the 1000'2500 have. Its a damn shame as the live is a ninja machine.Still sounds awesome tho.......

Thanks
Did you transfer your 3000 beats into the MPC Live? I got too many beats and sounds on Zips to be kept in jewel cases

I didn't mate, for whatever reason I wanted to resample and rebuild everything using the Live/X which took some time...

This may be your biggest sticking point with switching over :(

Which dude was that?I agree it does feel very tight.

I don't know his name exactly but it was mentioned in the Mpc live thread on gearslutz by Dan.

In that same thread was where the dude from inner clock posted his findings on the Live/X sequencer being even tighter than the 4k/3k, but again, negligible.

I dunno man, it sounds the same as the source material you sample.

It doesn't add anything if that's what you mean, its totally clean and hi fi sounding.

But I also wouldn't say it lacks weight or anything compared to the 3k.

Is he Japanese?

Second point.Wish i could agree with you on that.Im one of those people who spend more time doing shoot outs on the boxes before knocking out a tune or two with the test samples.......I mean for me its obvious. But scanning the webs it seems i might be in the minority.I will try feeding the live outputs through there own channels,EQ and limiting ect to see if i can beef them up later today. The 4000 and 2000 og ive got here now are proving hard to compete with wieght wise.Lot to do with the ad/da's i guess. There's no real getting around that these machines are now built around the software tho......

I do feel they add a little bit of Akai's inique punch/aggression imo.

Just Duplicate the Beat from the 3000, into your Live! Some parts of the Project may load but not all. Different structures.
I would Sample each Track from the 3000 into the Live
DO NOT....I repeat....DO NOT get rid of your 3000. You would be tryin to buy it back from whomever you sold it to lol

Just use Akai effects if you want to warm up or make it dirty.
Akai compressors, decimator, filters are very good at that
