mpc 60

I recently had my mind set on a 2000xl, but the popping up of some 60's on ebay and my favorite producer(hi tek) uses one, i am thinking about going with the 60. can someone fill me in on the benifits/disadvatages, availibilty of sounds, what will i need to hook up to my computer (if anything different). Thanks for the help!

The memory issue with the amount of SAMPLE time is enough reason not to go with a 60, personally that is how I feel. Get another cheaper sampler; if you just want that grimey sound, and use it with an 2000xl. As far as Hi-Tek, he is accustomed to what he uses. Somone may say the same about you and desire a 2000xl later. Choice is really yours.

The 60 is really a dream to use. the thing to do would be to get one and a rack sampler with it with all the time and filters/effects you need and use the 60 to control.

what about ease of use?

60 imo shallow menu's nothing is hidden behind open windows, 4 soft buttons vs. 6.

filters would be nice though. Try the 60, if you want more, sell it and get the 2000.

The MPC 60 is a pretty solid unit. I really don't use the sampler on it at all. So the memory issue isn't that big of a deal to me. I use ACID PRO 4.0. I just import my samples into there..set the timing that I want the hit or the loop to be at..save it as a wav file & import it into SONAR. That way I can manipulate it however i see fit. Plus you will have a lot less floppies lying around .

Sometimes the filters are actually something you can't do without when it comes to making a beat... if you plan on upgrding to more equipment later then the 60 is a good buy, but if you're gonna use it as a stand alone unit, try a mpc 2000 or 2000XL or mpc 3000. Hi Tek uses the MPC 3000 now, I read it in an article in remix magazine and also there's a picture of his customized 3000 on Forat's website. He got his logo on it and the whole 9... I'd like to customize my 2000 but that money sure buys alot of records....

The 60 comes with the 8 Outs standard, with a mixer with eq you can get a lot of varied results, more so than with lowpass filters. That said, filters would be nice.

I wish I never bought a 60. I have it, love it, dont use it since i got the 3000, but i cant come to sell it. if you own one, you know what im talking about.

im most likely gonna sell the 3000 after my current projct is done, get the 4000, and keep the 60/s950 in studio B.

Sometimes the Original is just the Best.
I mean, look what this original product has turned into, Massive enterprise!
Simplicity is why the Mpc's are, where they are now.
Mpc60.....Less Features?

Thats why i aint selling it. But really as my music is getting better, and im pushing the envelope of what you can do with a 3000, i see how limited the 60 is as a stand alone MPC, with a s950 thats another story.

That's a nice combination.
I recently located a cheap Rfx card for my E5000 sampler, and as soon as i installed it, the sampler became totally inoperable.
Within five minutes of turning the unit on, it would lock up every time.
I had them send me a new card, but this time it didn't lock up, but started emitting monitor blowing high freq distortion and extremely powerful sub bass popping.
After spending 20 minutes on the phone with an Emu Tech support guy in Holland running me through the Sys Diag tests it became apparent that there was an H/chip problem.

I had only just recently sent off my MP7 for a warranty repair as it would not store edited presets!

My point is, they just don't make 'em like they used to, and i have developed a keen enthusiasm in much more reliable hardware products such as the S950, much older products more reliable!
