The notion that things were better for the listener when only major label / imprint selections were readily available is preposterous. Think of how many great local artists never got heard because they didnt have the resources or savvy to get in front of some A&R guy.

In order to wade through the ****, you just need a good site that’s well organized. I like Bandcamp.

Who said it was because we only had major label imprints to listen to?? Independent music has existed as long as corporate music has. If thats all you knew about 'back then' were the big players, you weren't even looking very hard at your local record store (unless you're not old enough to have had those). You bought indie magazines, you read newsprint DIY zines, you actually went to local shows and networked with your other musician friends. You do know that all those punk bands little hipster kids buy shirts up at Hot Topic and H&M of were dirt poor, spending out of their own pocket to put out records and tour types when they were around right? The Misfits? Glenn Danzig stuck the damn center labels on the records himself when they came back from the pressing plant. 1979. They folded and glued all the covers together themselves. When you bought one of their records you sent that money to Glenn's PO Box and he hand wrote your address on the mailer it was sent to you in. Was the same with Minor Threat's Dischord Records, The Dead Kennedys Alternative Tentacles Records, all of them. Punk is just one example. Hip-hop was and sometimes still is the same way too. You think drum and bass and house music sells major label numbers? Somebody is still putting it out, you can bet Capitol and Warner Bros aren't wasting money on it.

Music has long existed outside of the major label industry, if you couldn't find it, thats just plain laziness.

I’m 50. I saw Sonic youth for 5 bucks. King Crimson twice, and everything from Run-DMC at the Garden to Zorn and Eye @ the knitting factory.

All I’m saying is that independent artists have both the tools and platform to deliver ideas anywhere in the world in seconds. If someone can’t sift the shit away to find it.. well.. that’s not really a “problem” with the state of music. It’s yours.

That's adorable. If I didn't know what I was talking about, I wouldn't rightfully call you out on your **** you spouted earlier. But please - continue - your "publishing business" sounds fascinating. Also, be sure to tell those kids

 like I said, you don’t know what you’re talking about. All you are doing is showing your ignorance. You sample music thinking you own it. You make some basic beat from a loop pack, thinking you produce. You have more games install on your computer than plug ins.

How did that xlr mic work out for you? What is an xlr mic? I mean really, who buys an Rme interface then look for the cheapest pre amp to record vocals into a mpc live. Because they don’t want to bring the interface and laptop. Really???

Also why would you record vocals into an mpc live, and go into the rca inputs. You do know those rca’s are for phono input only.  If you cannot figure that basic stuff out, I don’t know what to say.

But hey, do you, and keep pretending.

That’s precious! Please, keep telling us how awesome you are.   :fku:

You have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s sad. Really. Please tell me where I advocated sampling anything. I’ll wait. And stop cherry picking posts out of context to make your argument. It’s dishonest and disingenuous. You know very well what I said later in that thread since you’re bothering to creep.

What are you, 7? Do your parents know you’re online after bedtime?

You are right, you never advocated sampling, even if you bought a 1200 Dollar sampler. You know this easier than, making beats in garage band using apple loops. Nevertheless, maybe the 2.6 update will fix your issues.

Damn I didn't get to see Sonic Youth until the Murray Street tour in like 2003 heh. Run-DMC would've been rad too. You still have a Knitting Factory over there right?? Played at the one in Hollywood a few times I loved that place. I was sad when it closed down. It closed not too long after the Virgin store next to it went under.

Here’s the real pedigree; after the Breeders left the stage, I walked out on Nirvana. 8)

Haha. Can we quit d*** measuring, now, Mono?

You seem to enjoy strawman arguments and just making shit up. And you wonder why you get called out on your bullshit?

If 2.6 automatically makes you walk away from your keyboard and stop gas-lighting, it would be the best update Akai ever released. Ever. :fku:

Look Charles, I'm always looking to help people who are at a disadvantage, so let me give you hand:

Its the internet man, plain and simple. The reason there is so much **** and its so much harder to find the gems, is EVERYBODY has an opportunity to be heard now. I mean you can even find my **** on Soundcloud, and weird fans have made Youtube videos for a couple of my bands tracks. That wouldn't have happened in 1995 when websites were still horrible flashing text Geocities websites and Real Audio was king hah. Even back then, we were still 'nerds' for using computers and going online with em like in the 80s when we had our C64s and Apple BBS's hehe. 3 years later, everyone and their mother has dial up, then DSL, etc.. Now its just part of life, your grandma is shaking her head at all the Insta hookers youre fans of nowadays when she signs on there to look at pictures of her grandkids. She's about to message you on Facebook about it!

Fudge you just took me back. I used to have a few Geocities accounts for websites, with links to RA files of my live performances and some of my recordings. OnHover gifs, frames, using javascript, oh man I feel old now, but good times, when I was ahead of the DIY curve of music. My boy and I did EVERYTHING we could to make our own music ourselves, studio time was damn near $100 an hour, and to high school kids, that was out, but Alex got his hands on a Fostex 4 track, I built a computer and got an early CD-burner to hustle our stuff (it was more lucrative to make mix CDs though, my prom "tape" was legendary - I got so many daps after that one, felt like I got laid for it. :smoker:

Now everyone seems to DIY, for better or worse. Its changed the focus of gear and software to be more automatic to take away the strain. I'm mildly salty, don't feel people these days truly understand how much work used to be involved in being independent before social media (and not living in LA or NY), but my salt isn't jealousy and just wishing I had been good enough to get some flowers for my efforts (I had bars but no charisma and a boring delivery).

True, but it has also benefit industry professionals as well. iZotope Ozone is a great example - it was extremely popular in many studios in its early stages, and now with iZotope's machine learning that first appeared in their Neutron channel strip, it just makes things faster for pro's. Time saved in the studio is time saved for clients. Pro's don't have to use it, but many find it speeds things up. That's a win for everyone.
