However, my only gripe would be that it can't be used as universal controller for other Software DAW or Outboard Midi gear. Other then that, it works great. I'm not a FL STUDIO user and I mainly use it, for step sequencing.

Yeah, I originally bought two Fire's to make it easier for me to sequence my drum machines when doing live work, but I hadn't touched FL Studio in since it was Fruity Loops, and even then, it was a "try out" and I promptly went back to Reason. When I tried to apply the Fire for said purpose, I was originally using FL Studio as a VST in Ableton, and giving FL full control of the MIDI channels of the drum machines. It worked, but the setup was a nightmare - I wasn't familiar with MIDI implementation in FL Studio - or more importantly - the channel rack, so ultimately I bailed on this and was in the hole $400, then I started using FL Studio when I got a laptop and lost the power cord for my MPC, and promptly fell in love withe Fire.

I so wish I could sit down with Akai to talk about the Fire, it has SO much potential, but misses key things that would make it useful to the average FL Studio user.

Using Reason Rack in MPC Software would be great and sweet. Anyway, we can't. Even we MacOS users will have to hold our horses til a point release of reason that is to come before the year ends because it will be VST3 only at launch. Said by Mattias Reason Product Manager. As of now I'm beta testing it and only capable of using it on Reaper (I don't own any other DAW besides Reason and Reaper)
For those like me who love the SSL here's a pic from the 3 modules in their final stage.

Im confused....
Reason is a good Program with a different type workflow. I tried it back in the day before they had VST support. But I couldn't grasp it well, so I went towards the FL route. Seems like they are now coming around to what FL was doing back in the day.

There are ways to use the X/Live together with other DAW's.

Standalone is like Having the Handcuffs/Ankle Bracelets off....At the same time Running on Hot Coal wit No Shoes on lol
There are definitely Limitations with the Hardware and Software. The key is utilize both to get the best results.

ALL I CAN SAY IS GAAAAAWWWWWWDDDDD DAAAAAMMMMMMMN!!!   LOL Yall know I'm excited. Mixing in Studio One 4.5 is going to be a breeze! With that mixing stack you just showed TT they up the algorithms on that from the previous SSL they have in Reason as a mixer, but it sounds Great! I use it all the time, I can't wait to mix in Studio One.

But it gets better especially for me! I have Refills that a lot of people don't have and don't even know about. In those refills I have for example, The Virus Ti, in a refill. The EXACT sounds from the Virus Ti. The Andromeda, the exact sounds from it.There's no emulation or none of that crap, I have the exact sounds. I have The Triton Rack, Kawai, Fantom, Yamaha XS/XF, Roland 2080, 5050, Roland JP800, JD9000, The EXACT sounds in these refills. So I don't need the real hardware! That is crazy, if people start buying the 3rd party refills they are going to be good to go.

Yo Reason Studios is the most talked DAW right now. I seen a heap of people saying they returning to Reason. A slew of people are getting the Suite including me.
For me lm going to have more than the average person.

Being able to have any keyboard on the planet put in a refill with the exact same sounds is just ridiculous.

I may have agree with Frisbi Reason is the best DAW lol

EnochLight wrote:LOL! Man.. it's nice to see Reason 11 get some love over here. Reasontalk has been absolutely brutal (mostly the hardcore Reason-only users). KVR seems pretty excited, though (as does most other channels).

Oh you don't have to convince me - I've felt Reason is the best DAW for years. It's my main DAW, and even with the meager sequencer updates we're getting, I'm all for 11. I expect the 11.x point updates to continue to bring some much needed stuff to the plate as well.

It's just that the butthurt that many users are experiencing over at Reasontalk is laughable. Bunch of drama queens and snowflakes.

Side note: Sometimes I really hate this forum's policies. The whole "You cannot make another post so soon after your last" is **** stupid. It's like a 15-30 minute block between posts!

@Admin: please turn this off. No forums use it, and it makes trying to participate in threads a real pain in the ass. I mean, unless that's your goal? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They need to put markers in Reason

I wouldn't call Reason the best DAW, but it has more charisma and charm than any other DAW that I've used, and is super intuitive to anyone used to physical equipment, it was the first DAW that made "sense" to me. The Rack setup combined with (no pun intended) combinators is super flexible and can make the sound design process "fun".

But, Ableton has more tools/resources available, FL Studio feels ridiculously fast and easy, etc.

It depends how each one measures "best" I guess. If better is that has better and more tools, which is a very valid point, the Reason is not the most complety. For me "best" is the one that inspires me most, and make my workflow easy, and that is Reason for me.
So in a technical side it is not the best DAW, although it has some tools not other DAW have, the rack ecosystem as you mentioned ie.

Like TT said depends what is best to you. I see it as the best because of the things it can do. Fact, FL is no match to Reason. FL is a clutter box lol FL doesn't offer as much as Reason does. Ive been A Reason user since Ver. 3. This program is deep FL isn't. I tried FL and didn't understand what was going on.
The different formats you can use is better than FL and Ableton. The Refills format alone is a monster. Ab nor FL have a part where they have the exact keyboard from any keyboard on the planet. Not an emulation lm talking the real thang. Can FL or AB get a Triton Rack, with the original sounds and a new feature where l can stack 14 sounds on top of each other from ONE instance! No DAW on this planet can do that.
I don't even want to get into the routing you can do is INSANE! I don't wanna go into that.
You tell me which DAW has a Free SSL 9000k emulation and warmth algorithm and 8 sends on all tracks. Protool has no spund its transparent if you try to go there. I can take one sound spread it across my keyboard using the NNXT and save it and have that sound forever.

Its not me being bold lm confident Reason is the best Daw just like Omnisphere 2.6 is the best synth on this planet, Lunaris is the best solo pad software system out. Im not an average Reason user lm advance and l can go into detail in what it does. It inspires the hell outta me some times to much lol

It has mad TOOLS to use, like key dectection, pattern mode, explode,
3 screen setup, the best time stretch of audio l have seen, you can turn audio into midi, and l can go on and on! With the addition of the rack can be used in other DAWs got people excited that don't use Reason . oh again in 2020 RS got some thangs coming ooooohhhh wwwweee lol

Peace!

A few odd things with Logic have me looking at replacements/alternatives. Studio One is at the top of my list, but this thread has me wondering about Reason.

Danoc, you seem to have experience with both but it sounds like you prefer Reason. Considering I'd want to sync with my Live, preferably with the Live as the master, that might bump Reason. I think I remember you saying Live couldn't master Reason. If that's the case, the Live can be slaved to Reason, correct?

I'm getting used to the Live slaved to Logic, but Logic is not the best with external sequencers. Maybe it's not that important for Live to master the situation, but a straight forward sync between the Live & DAW is essential.

I've been looking at virtual consoles as well. I passed on Brainworx bx_console SSL 4000 the last few sales. Having a console built into Reason makes it a contender along with all the expandable options.

Going mostly virtual has been a rough transition. I'm getting close to being settled. Standing pat might be the best option, but if I do make one last change, it needs to be a smooth one.

Lol I Beg to Differ...
Reason is just now starting to Come around to where FL has already been. Such as VST support. You're are definitely correct. Clutter Box of Innovation.
Refills are very similar to VSTi's. ONLY Because back then they didn't have VST support.
Back then, there were a few "SSL 9000" type Vst's on the Market...Namely the Waves Plugins. So that "Warmth" was already available on FL.

Time Stretching....Most DAWs use the Same Time Stretch Algorithm. (Elastique Pro or whatever its called lol).... YUP! Been there since back in the day on FL

Pitch Detection....Been There! Open up Edison, select a region, Boom!

Stacking Sounds from One Instance....Yupper! Just open several "Midi Out" plugins...or...simply stack Channel on top of Channel.

But Im Glad Reason is finally coming of Age
