You bring up some valid points and good convo.
1. Studio One is Dope also. I love that DAW over PT any day. It has some tools that l love. I master in it. I can go on, l say get both if you can lol.

2. I use Reason to mix because of the mixing board and everything sits in front of me like a real console. And so on. Its not like that in S1V4. But with the addition of thr ReasonRack l can use console type joints in S1v4. We'll see.

3. I haven't tried to make The Live a slave to Reason. I don't need to.

Bezo wrote:A few odd things with Logic have me looking at replacements/alternatives. Studio One is at the top of my list, but this thread has me wondering about Reason.

Danoc, you seem to have experience with both but it sounds like you prefer Reason. Considering I'd want to sync with my Live, preferably with the Live as the master, that might bump Reason. I think I remember you saying Live couldn't master Reason. If that's the case, the Live can be slaved to Reason, correct?

I'm getting used to the Live slaved to Logic, but Logic is not the best with external sequencers. Maybe it's not that important for Live to master the situation, but a straight forward sync between the Live & DAW is essential.

I've been looking at virtual consoles as well. I passed on Brainworx bx_console SSL 4000 the last few sales. Having a console built into Reason makes it a contender along with all the expandable options.

Going mostly virtual has been a rough transition. I'm getting close to being settled. Standing pat might be the best option, but if I do make one last change, it needs to be a smooth one.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll want to create, mix & master in the same software, so I'll need to study up prior to selecting. If anything, Logic would be the alternative.

Another question for you though. What role does the Live play in your setup?

Well... Reason had its own sounds and formats. Wasn't no need to have vsts. It was in its own lane and could do things FL couldn't.

Refills are not similar to VSTS. You can make youe own refill and use 3rd party refills. No license key or dongle or ilok involved when using refills.
Rack extensions are more like vsts. ;-) You know lm coming to defend Reason baby lol

Waves SSL ? Yeah dope, but no way more convenient than the SSL in Reason. Clutter buster if you open 20 SSL in a DAW. In Reason the layout is crispy neat, plus you get 8 dedicated sends on EACH CHANNEL! You cant get that on Waves SSL nor on brainworks! Plus you get an entire screen view of the mixer with zero clutter!

I didn't say pitch detection lm talking about NOTE detection in Reason. If l have a note and don't know it Reason can detect it and place it on my entire keyboard.lAnd l don't have to open up another program to do it lol

Wait a minute! Open multiple midi outs? Yo, you open ONE combinator with 10 VSTis if you like, effects etc, just ONE. lol and the things you can do with will kill FL!

Now Reason letting THEIR Rack able to work in any DAW that use VST3.

You know lma defend Reason to the death! Wat else you got lol

No Doubt...
Reason Software is Decent. Cant Knock it at all. You & many others have found a Comfort Zone with Reason. Which is a Good Thing. Im pretty sure it can perform a lot of tasks. But I am curious to what Reason can do that FL cant accomplish. :-D

You're right...Waves SSL may not be able to have 8 sends per channel...BUT FL has 8 sends per channel  (decades ago lol)

Notes/Pitch......Tomato/Tamato lol...(Had it) lol

"Now Reason letting THEIR Rack able to work in any DAW that use VST3"...Exactly my original point. Good to see Reason finally Coming Of Age :worthy: :worthy:

1. Reason has vocal corection its equivalent to Ceremony. FL don't.
2. Reason has a dedicated SSL with all the trimmings. Fl don't.
3. Reason has a 3 screen setup FL don't.
4. Reason has a rack that simulates hardware FL don't.
5. Reason has Refill format that can accept the original sounds from any keyboard on this planet , FL don't.
6. Reason has Blocks FL don't.
7. Reason on the 25th of September will give to every DAW its Rack FL can't lol

Umm... I love Reason, but you're wrong on some of these.

1. it's Celemony Melodyne. Not "Ceremony". Also, it's akin to Melodyne Essentials (the entry level version of the software). Additionally, all other DAW have had access to Melodyne for well over a decade, and Studio One came with Essentials for free for many years.
5. Reason's "refill format" has nothing to do with accepting "the original sounds from any keyboard on this planet". What does that even mean? The refill format is just Reason's way of containing presets, patches, and samples in a lossless compressed container format.
7. FL Studio can already be used as a VST plugin in any DAW.

Just say'n. If we're going to represent, we have to do it right. ;) :smoker:

In your signature is says REASON 11, but it doesn't publicly release until September 25, 2019. I would love to hear the music you're creating in Reason 11 right now.

He’s definitely right though and FL comes with its own pitch correction and melodyne type of plugs... Not to mention FL piano roll will totally wipe the floor with Reason, they are just now getting the ability to paint in a bunch of notes :WTF:

Ok l misspelled Celemony Melodyne my bad. Yes its been out but does FL have it? That's what l was talking about and l don't have buy it because its separate.
It comes in Reason and easier to use IMO.

Hold up you got Reason and don't get what lm sating about Refills? Bro you can clone any keyboard midi clone directly from that. This is old news though but FL don't that. The refill format can house original keyboard sounds. Again l have a Triton rack refill no emulation , l have the sounds from the Virus Ti no emulation! And my list goes on. lol

7.? Why would l open up a DAW inside another DAW? :hmmm: Well be using only the Rack from Reason.
No one went or going crazy over FL beung able to be in another DAW. They are going nuts because of that rack FL don't have that. Main case is the rack!
Peace
