take it all back to the shop and buy a real acoustic piano.

This technology stuff is obviously just not your bag.

feline1>you're worthless! while you wait to pounch upon those who you 'know' more then, with your pus$y 'feline' claws mindyou, why don't you go work on your website. an area in which you take your own advice and sell off you computer and buy a knitting kit.

>>Knox, in order for anyone to help you here you're going to have a more detailed and specific info....like, are your cable connected properly, do you see you midi keyboard in the midi monitor, is the keyboard port & channel selected in the track window.....and such.

look over the MPC4000 quick reference manual. then make sure your connection are correct. also post this over in the Newbie Forum. good luck and hit me back, once you've covered what is in the manual and you get stuck.

peace

/mortified/

Good god man!
Even *with* that *extremely* helpful young lady who appears on the MPC4000 LCD screen,
you haven't a hope in hell of getting the best out that machine without some documentation!!!!

Luckily, it's all available to download from Akai's website.

Point your browser at http://www.akaipro.com

You need:
- the MPC4000 User Manual (v1.0) (you shoulda got a printed copy of this with your machine!)
- the MPC4000 Reference Manual (v1.0)
- the various Addendum PDFs for the various OS upgrades
(1.20, 1.30, 1.33, 1.40, 1.50, 1.60, 1.70...... all of 'em that you can find to download)
- download the manual for Ak.Sys as well, even if you're not going to use Ak.Sys on a computer, cos it is helpful in explaining some stuff
- get the SysEx specification too, if you're into that kind of thing ;-)

MPC stands for MIDI Production Centre. So I guess feline has a point saying that the 4k is too much for this guy.

Yeah, but I didn't realise he hadn't got a manual....

(Mind you,
severe minus marks for not thinking of looking on Akai's website in the first place  )
