MPC3K, a spare SCSI card, and a computer. Need advice!

Hey fellas!

I'm just getting into SCSI and need some directions. Hopefully this is the right place to ask?

Here's what I got:

1X AKAI MPC3000. It has got a DB25 female SCSI connector on its back.
1X Computer running WinXP pro SP2 (and a PTLE rig).
1X Adaptec SCSI PCI card, featuring an external HD50 female connector.

Here's what I'd like to do:

Have the possibility to load .SND samples from the computer HD into the MPC, so I don't have to load/save them from/to floppies. I don't really fancy the idea of getting an external SCSI HD or ZIP (might sound stupid but I'm short of AC plugs, and don't really want to add any more noisy bits to my setup).

Think something like this might connect the sampler to the PC:



But honestly have to admit I don't know how it can be done, and most important IF this can be done painlessly. There seem to be plenty of horror stories about SCSI and MPCs and WINXP around, and want to make sure it's worth to give it a try or stick to floppies.

i dont think u can do that....

midi sample dump might work.

SCSI transfers are not supported on MPC3000 or MPC60. The only option is Midi Sample dump in MPC3000. MPC60 does not support either method.

Not even on the old OS? I heard someone was working this way.

I did read about MIDI sample dump on the manual but never really thought about it as a working solution. Might be the best option for me though. Will double check the book and check it out as soon as possible.

Of course anyone wanting to share his experience with MIDI dumps on MPCs on this thread is very welcome. I would expecially like to know if there's any reason why I should not use MIDI dump - unreliability, low transfer rate, known issues, whatever really.

Don't try to do SCSI transfers between your MPC and your computer. Do not connect the MPC's SCSI port to the computer for any reason! It will kill your MPC's SCSI fuse.

For what you wanna do, it's probably easier and cheaper and safer to cop a SCSI Zip drive for the MPC and a IDE Zip drive for your PC. You can then, transfer the disks not the hardware. Take a Look at MPC Editor as your way out.

I definitely won't even try to do any PC/MPC SCSI transfers at this point.

I already have an IDE ZIP mountend on my Z8, and since I'm not using it anymore I might move it to the pc and get this SCSI ZIP for the AKAI, they're dirt cheap on ebay and seem to be the most practical solution at the end of the day, MIDI dumps being a bit of a nightmare.
