Is it normal for MPC Live to emit quiet high pitched whine?

Wonder if you could help me. Does your MPC emit a low level high pitch whine when turned one. I just got a new one and can def notice it when turned on and want to know if it’s normal. It happens when on battery or wall charger and when there’s nothing plugged in. It is loudest at the back where the vent is so audible especially when your ear is next to that.

It’s not a major deal and I don’t think would effect performance but I had a Live before and don’t remember this so wanted to check it’s not a issue with this unit in particular. Any help welcome!

No, my Mpc Live doesn't do that.
Recording through a firewire mixer and a Mac, I noticed on multitrack that when Mpc is not sending anything, there is a very very low hiss but it could also be the Mackie mixer and it doesn't disturb me, it's even lower than any tape hiss anyway.

No it’s not normal, the Live is dead silent.

Word, that’s what I thought and remembered from my previous one. Thanks both, will look to get replaced.

By chance do you have a spinning hard inside?

Could be grounding issues.Sold a live recently that was fine in my place but when in the buyers house these was some noise.It was a 3rd party supply so.......Anyway i took a bit off and left him to sort it out.

A few things to try... as it may be a grounding issue...

Disconnect any USB devices, these can create ground loops due to bad cables... if you have this issue you can get an audio ground isolator, but it will come at the cost of reducing your output dB a bit.

As suggested earlier, if you’ve got an HDD, remove it, these motor could create an audible noise.

I’d try another power adaptor if you can find one with the right specs. It is possible that this has gone bad and the MPC is fine.

I wouldn’t rule out a battery issue, though taking apart the Live is a bit daunting... and I’m not sure if it can run without the battery or not.

Try using different outputs than L/R, you might not have this issue on other outputs.

Check to make sure you have line in monitoring turned off...

I think... finally... I’d make sure you don’t have any odd effects running on your Live that might be boosting signal noise.

Yes, mine has just started to do that too. Driving me nuts. The screen is jobbing out too. Gutted as it’s way out of warranty so have to make the decision as to replace or repair , both will cost a shed load

coil whine (google it) - temporary solution (sometimes permanent) is to to find the offending one and pot it with non conductive silicone/glute/epoxy etc…
