MPC1000 q tuning linked to tempo

Hi, MPC newbie here,
I recently bought a mint mpc1000 and love it. I was wondering if there's a way to not have the Q link tuning linked to tempo?
The Q link is set to TUN but the tempo rises or falls too as i move the fader...

It sounds to me like you are trying to pitch-shift your sound (which is to change the tuning of the sound without changing the tempo), is this correct?
