Sampling through regular amp instead of preamp?

I ordered my first MPC (2000 classic) a few days ago, and I was wondering if I could simply connect it to my amp via the RCA cables that I'm using to connect the amp to my speakers right now. I understand that a preamp or a mixer with a built in preamp would be ideal, but I don't have either.

that should work. are you talking about getting sound out or into the machine? either way, assuming you are talking about a stereo amp, not a guitar amp, it will help for both, not necessarily at the same time though.

Yeah, I meant getting sound into the machine. Wasn't talking about a guitar amp.

I figured it should work, but nobody ever mentioned using a regular amp when describing how to get sound into the MPC from a turntable. They always said preamp.

ok, well you didnt mention turntable in your original post
that changes things.
a turntable is USUALLY phono level. cd players, mp3 players, computers, and line outs of amps are usually line level.
a turntable NEEDS a preamp somewhere in the chain... this is usually built into a dj mixer, into a receiver/amp like your stereo amp, as a standalone device, or sometimes built into the turntable.

does your turntable have a line/phono switch? if so, you dont need anything else, just set it to line, and plug it directly into the mpc.
if not, you can use a dj mixer, a standalone pre, or your stereo amp IF it has a phono input.

but yes, a turntable ALWAYS needs a preamp somewhere, even if that is internal in another piece of gear.

I understand. Thank you so much for taking the time out. My amp doesn't have a proper phono output, so I'm planning on getting a mixer in the next few days. I'm assuming the Numark M2 has a preamp? I will mostly be using the EQ for sampling drums and running it from my turntable to the MPC. Any thoughts on it?

you'll be running a pretty classic setup at that point. turntable -> numark -> mpc and then mpc to your stereo amp to listen to it if you want.
