[HELP} CF card reader not recognised after downgrade to 1.14

Hi,

I recently purchased an MPC 2000XL with card reader already installed. It would recognise all cards inserted and worked well. However, some cards were not recognised by windows/mac systems. I figured i would downgrade to 1.14 and check if formatting the SD cards via the MPC on 1.14 would fix this problem.

After downgrading to 1.14, the CF card reader is now not working and not recognised by the MPC (says no floppy disk inserted). I am now unable to upgrade back to 1.20 as the CF cards cannot be read !! I have no floppy drive or external SCSI drives to upgrade back to 1.20.

How am i able to upgrade back to 1.20, please help, many thanks, Jack

Find someone with a floppy drive & floppy disk or Zip drive and Zip disk to load 1.2 back into the XL.

You're going to need a floppy drive or an external scsi drive with the 1.20 file on it. You messed up because the CF card reader you have is one of the cheap ones with no controller on board, so the MPC can't recognize it with earlier OS versions.

Thanks for the replies guys ! Tried to install floppy drive and everything looks fine but mpc won’t read the floppies and I cannot format via the MPC. I think maybe I am better getting a more expensive sd card reader at 1.14 as my previous one (that I had years ago) worked better than this SD card reader I have just now. Can someone point me in the direction of the more expensive CF reader that works with 1.14 (UK please!)

Either that or any help with my floppy problem, I’ve tried many different floppies, checked drive is working on pc, and checked all connections, strange

You are only adding the OS .bin file to the floppy, correct? Some people add the whole zip file and that no worky.
IMHO... I've always preferred OS 1.14 over 1.2 but that's because I always had a SCSI card reader in my XL.

Yeah only the .BIN file, it’s not reading any floppies at all, I’m guessing an incompatible floppy drive
