Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

I Know you guys dont wanna hear this....But I'll say it again. Its a Wrap for meaningful updates. The MPC X/Live has reached its Fullest Potential. Dont get me wrong, the X/Live are Phenomenal Machines, there is Zero Standalone Competition.

But I think Akai should just tell us what we already know. "No More Updates Until This New MPC X/Live XXL drops"

If i were Akai, i would just discontinue it. That way it can become a Legacy Unit. Hall Of Fame Worthy. Thats what make the MPC 60, 3000, 2000XL, etc so great. They had their time, now on to the Next!

If you want Legacy Features, purchase a Legacy Unit. Nothing wrong with that.

We've become spoiled in this Generation. Want EVERYTHING for Free! I bet if they charged for the Updates, there would be less complaining, and more Music Making. They Gave Us 90% of what we asked for....And Bozo's are still F*ckin Complaining!

Give it to us RAW and tell the truth....The X/Live are in Hospice and they're tryin to keep it on Life Support. Let Grandpa Rest In Peace.

New Machines Will Be On The Way....for us to complain about

Why discontinue the Live or X, when they just DC'ed the Touch and Renaissance. The LIVE/X have another year or two in the main MPC products.

MPC Studio Black
MPC LIVE
MPC X

FORCE
FORCE X (Pure speculation)

Yeah I agree 100%.
Hints are very clear.
It could also be a good news if they don"t ruin Mpc workflow and put 4gb or 8gb of Ram and better cpu.
My fear is that they make a Force/Mpc hybrid to launch clips and integrate with Ableton.
In this case my experience with Akai would be over, I switched to Mpc to work with Mpc workflow and get rid of clip launch workflow.
I mean, if I had to work this way, I would get Ableton and push and that's it.

Discontinue it to Alleviate the Hope that Some features will be Implemented, But Can NOT with the Current Hardware.

Discontinuation Builds and Promotes the Possibility of Something Greater will replace it.

Discontinue it....with A Minimal Service Support Forum. Kinda like the Forums we have set up here. Or over at Getsatisfaction.

Its Been 3 years now since its Initial Announcement. According to Akai History...its Time for another Announcement

Funny these guys want more “democracy” in their hardware development but I guarantee you they wouldn’t be so cool with everyone having a say in the development of their product... their beats.

From now on whenever I see someone posting tracks I’m instantly going to trash it because it didn’t have the features I wanted even if I like it.

Outrage culture is for pussies.

You discontinue a product because it's no longer selling or it cost more money to support then it makes or they can no longer get the replacement parts. (This is typical when you don't own the supply chain.) Look at the Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine, that little drum machine just keeps on going.

Yes, it's always easier to yell from the outside. Many do not understand how updates work. Let's say Akai Pro get 1000 MPC feature request and of that 1000 only 100 is possible. If it takes them 1 week to code 4 updates, considering everything goes well. It would take 25 week (5.75 months) to finish. Now that's in ideal condition, where nothing goes wrong.

Now if they have a bigger DEV team, they could do it faster. But it's going to cost them much more money to write these FREE updates. Now the MPC LIVE cost $4000 and the MPC X cost $6000.

I haven't had any glitches, I will put in 2.7 tonight. I love designing drums in the MPC Live and in the second stage take my drums to Audacity.

Wouldn't it be easier to edit and design in Audacity?

They don't need to and shouldn't "discontinue" the Live/X. That would be dumb.

Do some of the users here reach the limitation of the hardware in stand-alone - yes, but the people that I have interacted with are silently happy with their product or vocally annoyed by the complainers.

Where a new unit makes sense is growth. I doubt the Live/X flies off the shelf at this point. One because they are starting to age, and two, because features that people may want, require more power than what's available. So it would make sense to introduce a new unit to push new features and performance metrics.

But the Live/X aren't on death's door, not at all.

With that said, assuming a new unit is coming, they HAVE to pump WAY more power out of it. While I garuntee that people will still reach the end of its capability and complain, keeping it a buck, the horsepower of the Live was behind when it was realized, they need to move the needle forward.

If you do serious editing work etc., I recommend something other than the free Audacity.
What was seriously off-putting about it to me was the fact that you can't just simply do a quick save after an edit by CMD+s, but you need to export the sound via the pull-down menu, which gets really jarring when you do a lot of sample editing etc.

Ever think this is why akai got the first crack at standalone push, the force? Only speculation but it shouldn’t be thrown away either.

By future advancement I meant like the foundation for something we have no clue about.

How about this. Akai realized you were the most loyal and best customer and decided to make studio 1 control instead? That’s the daw you use no? Would you still have the same stance?

Don’t you think you could come across selfish if the update isn’t tailored to exactly your needs?

There are legit reasons to criticize, but an update not tailored to you is not one of them.
In the last year akai has paired with fl studio and ableton. That’s a huge market share, if given time I would assume you see partnerships with others...
You're barking up the wrong tree. I'm not criticizing because the update wasn't for me. I'm criticizing because they integrated with a 3rd party DAW while their own software is so far behind.

Again, it would depend on what that advancement was.

Yes, I'd still have the same stance. I don't want to have to use a 3rd party DAW. I want them to address the 3-4 major short comings of their software. But at least I'd have the integration with what I'm settling for.

But you keep assuming when I was very direct in my criticism.

Live/X are in Death's Hallway. Its lived a Good Life. And should be put in the MPC Hall Of Fame. Discontinuation is a Step in a Positive Way.

Its Game 6 in the 1998 Finals...X/Live has shot the Last Shot at the Buzzer....Swish!!!! Time to Retire lol

Honestly don't get this thing that people keep repeating that the Live and X aren't powerful enough and that that's holding back their development. They're not unlimited, sure, but the large features I see people asking for here and on GS are disk streaming and multitimbral MIDI - these are not things that require more resources in the way that the synths and effects did. They just require development time.

As for new models, I don't see how that helps. They can drop support for the old units, of course, but seriously, if version 3 comes out without support for the MPCs they've sold this year *after their product manager said it would be coming out as a free upgrade*, that's their reputation deader than a stuffed parrot in a 50-year-old Monthy Python sketch. And if they don't, they've just doubled (or more) the amount of testing that they have to do, leaving a lot less time for software development... which is what these units need to live up to the full potential.

But IDK. Maybe Akai are that silly. I can't find any new FCC filings from them, but maybe they've figured out how to hide that after both the Live and the Force were revealed that way.
