2.7 is only supported on Catalina right now. Did you try 2.6?

MPC 2.7 supported for Windows 10 and macOS 10.15 Catalina users only. Installing this software on macOS 10.14 Mojave or earlier may have unintended results.

I'm having a similar issue, since I am running High Sierra I've been trying to find the 2.6 software download and it isn't available anywhere on the MPC site. Only the update and download for 2.7. Is there some sort of downgrade option when downloading 2.7?

I’m having the same issue. Let me know if you’re able to find 2.6 install. Thanks.

I had the same issue.....only use the MPC X in controller mode. Updated to 2.7...controller mode no longer works....researched on here and other places...updated MAC to Catalina ....worked for the first day...went to turn it on there...not working....I am left with a very expensive paperweight..joke of an update how can they not know this shit will happen they must test the shit out if it ...?
