Now if you really want to bring out those artifact, sample the sound at half speed, add a low pass on it, pitch it up 3 semi tone, then apply auto warp and set it to the BPM you want.

That's your opinion. My opinion is that is sounds like ass, and pretending warp artifacts are somehow desirable is just laughably silly. But you keep on doing you, and I'll keep on doing me.

Seems like many in this thread agree the warp in standalone sounds pretty bad. Nice you enjoy it, though.

Not just pretty bad.
For me it's unuseable.
I slice loops manually and assign them to a program to get something decent.

no i find it great too.... in fact i hope they add more algorithms down the road like an emulation of the s1000 TS, and why not... throw in your ableton one too. I use it specifically as an effect. i am not trying to stretch 16 bar samples 40% to fit loops i downloaded on splice... or vice versa.

I recently created a brass loop from virtual instruments I wanted to chop. I couldn't get more than a few BPMs without it sounding like ass. This was on auto. Real time was much better.

I'm usually in the studio, so opening the software is not much of an inconvenience. Or I could just do it in my DAW.

Better time stretching algo is definitely high on my suggestion list.

People used to say, the SP 1200 sound bad. But now those people are buying 1980 machine for $5000 dollars just for that. The C.R.E.A.M Warp Technique is no different for the MPC LIVE/X. Use your feelings and emotion to hear the music. You have a drum machine that gives, you something unique. Now you want to change it so that it sounds like everything else. :hmmm:

Well if that's how you like your music to sound. Straight, no flavor, no essence then keep doing it. Just don't go around pretending you came up with the C.R.E.A.M Technique.

:worthy: Cause the 2000XL time stretch was sheer garbage. I would use Reason 11 time stretch cause its on point. I have a melodic guitar loop l time stretch lma have a go at it in the MPC live.
mr_debauch wrote:people come over from ableton and logic to standalone mode on the mpc and don't expect to have to give anything up... traditionally on hardware, you always worked around it's limitations... found a way where possible to turn the cons into features. Anyone who has been on the mpc train would take this time stretch over the first one they implemented on the 2000xl any day.

Not to say they shouldn't work on it, but why the hell are you doing serious time stretching on the MPC anyways? As a matter of fact, what hardware unit is anyone ever using to do serious time stretching? Not too many i can think of that are going to be on par with got damn izotope on a computer.

My feelings are telling me I want my loop time stretched, not effected.

Ha @ unique!

I dont use the MPC Software's Time Stretch, but its probably equivalent the FL's Time Stretch. Its Flawless with the Slicer in FL. No Artifacts either. You can Time Stretch a Sample down to 30 Bpm and it'll still sound beautiful. I just dont like the idea of bouncing a Sample out of the MPC just to Time Stretch/Pitch Shift it.
I'll have to wait for the New Model in order to get that Elastique Pro Algorithm in Standalone

I don't mind the workarounds. Sometimes workarounds are cool to do as well. Just because.

It's just that... it seems like such low-hanging fruit to improve. Hell license the Izotope algorithm - someone else did that in the past. Can't remember who. I would have prioritized that higher than the Splice "integration".

And I certainly don't mind sacrificing some things in the MPC, I adopted Logic and the MPC about the same time (back in the 2000 days). I always knew I could do different things in each. But it seems like such low-hanging fruit, that would make a HUGE impact on the dedicated user base. And would inspire confidence that they are improving the MPC capabilities, not creating an integration that can be done in 2 - 3 extra steps anyway.

But I keep harping on the same things. Priorities, priorities. I don't know theirs, but just seem concerning to me. But I'll keep doing time-stretch in Logic and it's all good.

I understand it's not for everyone, but neither was the guitar distortion. Sometimes you have to embrace the mistakes and use them to your advantage. That's when mistakes become intentional and focused intent is what pushes art. :smoker:

okay so tell me this.... which hardware product has an actual good time stretch or one even close to what you get in a DAW? No mpc model, no roland/boss SP model, not sure on the octotrack or other elektron stuff.. how about the 1010 music stuff? I just wonder if me thinking that just isn't to be expected as a standard in hardware is off base... or is it a regular ass feature but the mpc is unique for not being up to snuff with today's climate?

Yeah also the Akai Reverb of Mpc, surely the worst I tried in last decade, will become a classic
Yeah it has a different character not everyone likes but it can give a sparkle of bad digital into your mix.

Learning how to tweak the settings, eq, and how much effect to apply matters. What reverbs do you use?
