Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

This is one reason the MPC X/LIVE should be able to connect to a network, like it does SPLICE  . That way the user could render the audio from their software DAW and save it in a shared folder. Then the MPC X or Live could instantly access any audio in that folder. That way there's no need for another A/D conversion.

LOL

Well, with about 5 minutes more forethought and planning, that’s how they would have implemented it - instead of limiting it to Splice. Then they could have handled ANY networked folder, including Splice folders.

Yes, indeed. I wonder if FANU thoughts of the MPC X + Ableton Live integration?

If l was Akai and saw what you and CharlesRandolph said l would say, "WE FOILED AGAIN :WTF: "

I wish you the best with the X. I listen to everything you release. I'm a fan. I would like to hear your workflow when using old and new gear together. Because, your definitely good at it.
Maybe you can teach me a different way other than I currently do.
I know you use Ableton to mix and master, I use Logic.

Oi man, thanks for the kind words!

I've traditionally sequenced all old gear with Ableton Live (had a very short run using Octatrack, too, but I sold it).
At some point I then track stuff out to Ableton Live and continue with the song, do a bit of automation, FX, work on arrangement etc.

Was just sequencing my Roland JV-1010 and JV-2080 with the X and then sampling stuff in and found that very convenient so will be using X for that, too (stoked that it can do CC so well, too).

Anything specific, feel free to ask!

I love Ableton and the MPC but prob won't be using it.
I'll keep them separate.
Might give it a test at some point.

It's a nice bonus in my book but nothing essential.

Man, the X is dope.

What I was doing last night was sequencing my Akai s900 with my X.
S900 is doing a bassline, and that goes into the X.
I can monitor that in realtime with an audio track – and add effects and automation.
This thought arose from me thinking, "Man I wish I could automate the filter in the s900", so a very quick workaround was to route the s900 bassline into the X and do the filter automation there.

X has 4 inputs, so it's like a minimixer for some of your external gear.
You also have 8 outputs, and you can route the X inputs to its outputs.

I have an ADAT box close to the X, and into that, I'm feeding the s900 bassline from the X, beats from s900, as well as X main outs (and could feed more tracks, of course).
ADAT goes into my UAD Apollo, so I can already do some EQing and whatnot on the way in and hear all that in realtime.
So that way I can combine old and new.
Ended up doing beats and bass with an s900 and then chopping some samples with the X…all in the same mix, playing together.
And all those tracks I can track out into my DAW in one go.

Powerful device. About to join the beta program, so am excited about that (won't be revealing any NDA stuff)!

Dam Fanu lm trying to figure out how you're doing that. Its bananas!

You can do it with the LIVE as well.

Yup, same tech!

Even on other machines where I make use of the sequencer, it’s pretty easy when you name everything the same on each device. If I had a 950, sure I’d try to get other stuff working but even saving your samples to disk wouldnt be all that bad. You can easily focus on another box while it loads or saves.

For his system, he’s got a baller set up. Stereo asr out to mpc, and run the outs of the 950 to a mixer into the mpc stereo 2, he can multitrack both..... might be as good as it get in terms of a hybrid vintage type deal. He could have it set up with a keyboard stand and small desk, even get a laptop and ableton involved and have everything integrated.

Thanks for the compliments on my setup.
My process of saving a beat across all machines is simple. It's going to piss some of you off. I don't save per machine, I save it all in the X. LOL.

Here's my workflow,
Every sample I start with is sampled into the MPCX, timestretched, chopped, no filters.
Then samples are resampled in the machine of my choice and use that machine to get the sound I want for each sample (S950 filters etc, Asr10 sound design and effects etc).
Asr outputs and s950 outputs are ran into a mixing board.
Out of the mixer I resample off each machine into the X and sequence.
The S950 is fast and easy for drums and low pass. I never chop in the S950, because I already chopped in the X and sampled into the S950 sound by sound, keygroup by keygroup. Sounds are midi triggered obviously for looping a drum track. Volume levels are maintained in my mixing board. Resampled into the X.

When I exclusively use the ASR10 as my Main sequencer to build sequences and not the X, I track out record using track mutes and resampled into the X. Each track gets its own track in the X so I can use track mutes to arrange a song. Easy.

Keep in mind every sound starts in the X and saved raw and unfiltered. I can always restart the process if I need to re-edit a sound in the S950 or ASR. 9 times out of 10, I get the sound right the first time. If not, I can fix it in a daw or whatever.

My beats sound dope and I like my workflow this way.
I use no floppies in the S950. I use no SCSI on the Asr10.
LOL.

Thanks for sharing your workflow. I have a similar setup, and am trying to get it just right. I am basically using the mixer as a way of getting more inputs, running the x outputs to additional samplers (950, etc.), their inputs to the mixer then into the x. I currently have the main outs of the x running to my monitors.

Once I sample into the x, I change the program output to the desired output and everything is great except, I now can't hear the sample being recorded because the program output has been changed to route the sample.

Do you run the mpc into the mixer as well? Any additional info on your setup would be great as this is exactly how I want to work.

Thanks in advance and to everyone here for sharing their expertise.

Iaght, so my temptation is growing again on the X, I'm just honestly...

I'm not enjoying Ableton at all for production, its highly functional, especially with the Push 2, but I'm not having *fun*, feels like a work environment. On the MPC though I do have fun. So what it boils down to for me

What's the workflow benefits of the X vs the Live? I already have the Live and can cook with that in the studio if I want, I don't, but my setup allows me to easily switch between Force/Live/PC, but the Live I use pretty much exclusively away from my studio. Right now I am pushing everything through a Focusrite 18i20 (newest one with emulation), and do a combination of VSTs (Arturia/Komplete) and hardware (System-8, FA-06, Peak, Minitaur, etc). I rarely sample from vinyl, though I do sample from other random sources (especially vocals).

I am trying to justify the cost, I can get it in my hands for about 1900 USD, and have some other gear I am moving off of that will absorb some of that damage as well (buh bye Digitakt). But my wallet needs a little more lubrication to convince it to open up.
