have to reboot to apply samples

I just got an mpc live a couple of weeks ago. Im experiencing issue where, or at least it seems to me, when i assign sample to a keygroup the will not apply to the pads unless i turn the MPC off and back on. Its on 2.4. Has anyone experienced this before? Amy I doing something wrong? Should i just update the firmware?
