I mean, we are dealing with not more then 1gb of Ram and an ordinary tablet cpu at the moment.

Well, if people want silly amounts of high end DAW features adding on top of the existing features then I guess we would need more CPU. But with disk streaming, the 1GB memory becomes a non-problem, so it depends on whether disk streaming is possible under the current CPU. I suspect it is, but I have no technical understanding to back up that assumption. We know that Hype works with the current hardware, but apparently we would need to add an SSD to store the wavetables, but the current hardware already allows for this user-upgrade.

My understanding is that samplers like the OP-1 and the elektron oktotrack are still using the same CPU/memory internals that they were using on their original release several years ago. There is no pressing need to continually update the hardware in these systems as long as the firmware is well coded and works around the hardware limitations.

It would actually be refreshing to see akai actually stick with the current hardware and instead focus on polishing the software. I'm more than happy to pay for software upgrades, plus there are other ways they can generate money from existing users - for example, creating optional 'add on' plugins (fx and synths etc), it doesn't have to be about continually discontinuing and replacing hardware.

Yeah but to have add on plugins on standalone I think we need a better cpu.
This is exactly my point.
Air was able to put their great fx on Mpc, I have nothing to complain about them, I just love their bundle but to be honest they are all basic effects.
Warp on standalone is very lame.
Synths have a very limited poliphony.
All this points to limited cpu.
If you want 3rd party companies to develop quality add ons, well, I guess we need more power. With current situation, we cannot have more then Air was able to make: basic fx, very limited poliphony.
Honestly I would love if Akai opens up its platform to 3rd party plugins, in the way Reason made with Rack extensions.
But I repeat, for that they need to put a better cpu, that's my opinion.
And this would not be solved with disk streaming.
I agree with you anyway that there is still a lot of space for improvement on the software and standalone OS which doesn't require new cpu or more ram.
Elektron Roland and so on offer features like audio through usb or sd card streaming with much more limited cpu and less ram, so you are absolutely right.
Well let's see then.

@MPC-Tutor

This is listed in the spec: One 8-channels I2S/PCM interface, One 8-channels SPDIF interface. Does this mean the max audio channel out, with the current board is 8 or is 16 possible? Or is the inputs taking away from that count, leaving only 12 possible outs?

Reading the spec's of the SOC, and it does support eMMC 4.5, so the 16 GB is for the system software. So the SD card that is used holds the sound sets. So if the SD card is swapped out with a larger one, could more sounds be install on it?

Yes, it's just a standard (apparently cheap, generic) 16GB micro SD, people on the facebook hacking group have replaced it with a 128 GB card, no problems whatsoever. Not really end-user friendly though as you have to take the MPC apart.

 Whoa. I can't argue with that.

If that's the case, I'm most likely dumping this and getting some other sequencer that already has the features I need in place.

the fact that the live/x never managed to cover the basic features of mpc1000 jjos and others is a massive fail, adding more ram better cpu isnt gonna fix the lack of skills of akais software team if they cant do what others did with the most basic of ram cpu. not looking promising at this rate of work

For real... it’s hard to define the reaction to the all this. For me, you know what your getting into with a mpc. A sequencer with some basic sampling functions. Some excelled in other areas, some just did the basics well. You have a sequencer that now you can track into...
It’s as simple as that, and look at all they’ve added that still will never be enough.
True, it doesn’t have functions to compare to a 4000 or even a few on the 1000. But hardly a failure. I’d rather have it over most mpcs for my work flow and what I missed I bought a z8 for under 200 bucks.... they may lack some features but they delivered my biggest gripes about former Mpcs. Able to track out and and also explode tracks.... I use to have a 4000 going out to a kaoss pad into a 404 just to hear my beats in my car, now I can export all to uSB stick and plug it into my car....

Now I don’t come from some power user background but let’s face it few people buying these Mpcs are power users, but more hobbyist like me who just prefer the hardware way.

It’s as simple as this. You want the mpc 60 workflow, get a mpc 60. You want the 4000 workflow, get a 4000. You get the picture?

Why didn’t the 1000 have the features of the 4000? why aren’t you bitching about that?

It’s a small paradigm shift... relax... would you prefer Akai just made cheap midi controllers and said hardware is dead?

Exploding tracks and Rendering Stems are arguably the best features on the MPC LIVE/X. I expect more from the MPC Flagship, which should inherit all the best features from the past flagship. All while removing the flaws and adding features to the MPC's legacy.

Yes sir. I hate tracking out. Exporting/Bouncing is so easy and sweet and fast. I can have 37 tracks, l can simultaneously send all 37 out at the same time.

2000XL l would do my drums on one track then manually had to separate them and put them on a different track. :Sigh: lt started to get on my nerves.

Now its just a breeze. The technology is better than the old machines.

When you render out a beat, how large is the stem folder?

More space = More Bloat. The more house you have, the more space you have for more junk.
