So it would be less then 100 dollars more. And for 100 dollars more you have an Mpc.with i5 chip and 8gb Ram.

And you can really throw away your computer and just make All inside such an Mpc. As many audiotracks you want, powerful effects and synths and maybe also a mastering chain. That should be a forward thinking from Akai.

Yes, $50 is good for one unit but we're talking about thousand of units. Don't forget, manufacturing, order fulfillment, Testing, Dev, Design, Return, etc, etc.. $3500 to $4000 per machine.

Come on.
We are just talking about changing cpu and adding ram.
Don't make it complicated, it's not.
And if they want to keep on selling Mpc, sooner or later they have to do it.
Meanwhile it would be nice if they take care of codings in software and standalone OS and fill the gap with modern times, like making a full midi with multichannels and polishing the odd things we still have.
Not difficult, man.
But sometimes I wonder if Mpc designers ever used their product to play music.

It does feel more like an Utility Program for the MPC, until the user tries to load effects and vi. LOL

No you're not alone.

I'm not exaggerating, It's an expensive process. Did you not read my example of the screws. Now do that for every part in the machine.   I know it's New Year EVE but you have to lay off the drinks.

I agree to filling the gap. But standalone is ahead of every other machine on the market. Yes, it's missing little things but tell me anything that can do what the mpc live /x can do.

I sure they do, but making gear is their purpose, so using the gear comes a distance second.

This time last year that rumor started floating around. There was a post of it, and an ad that had some stuff whited out. I don't think anyone ever verified it though.

Sure seems doubtful. That's the only way I can imagine that a "song mode" was omitted from the Force. Such a :hmmm: oversight. But, if all they're doing is launching clips... Clips was the focus of the last couple MPC updates (Splice and Ableton).

It technically is a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) but not the traditional computer DAW that people most often refer to. Wasn't it marketed at the beginning as DAW-like? Meaning some features are LIKE a traditional DAW? I've never thought of it as a traditional DAW or a replacement for a traditional DAW.

I tired loading a MPC 4000 project in the MPC Software and let me just say. I uninstalled it from my test computer and never used it again. I won't even bring up the webpage.

Hahaha - I haven't tried to do anything meaningful in it since at least 2.1, maybe 2.2.

Yeah same for me.
I installed it, tried it once and never again ahah.
I agree with you, it"s just an utility to see what's going on in Mpc.
Something like the apps you download to see the routing of an audiocard.

In the beginning I'm pretty sure it was. I wish they would have never even looked in that direction though.

I still, to this day, don't understand why the current MPC isn't akin (and realistically beyond) the 4k / z8 engine. But I think part of it is the "DAW"-like distraction, and obsession with their thinking that every MPC user loves clips like Andy does. LOL

Except that's not how Akai spent almost of all of 2.x thinking about it, unfortunately. I think they really believed they could create a DAW-like experience, until people started asking for things like PDC. They've been distracted from things that would really make this platform a game-changer. And I can't stand the term "game changer". But assuming they own the IP to the 4k / z8 engine, that's exactly what they could have (and should have) created - a game changing MPC. I agree with the earlier post that they haven't been able to accomplish what JJ has accomplished with less hardware resources, and that's a screaming testament to where the platform is at.

Now don't get me wrong - I love the MPC experience, and I didn't buy it for what it could have been (though just because I buy a car, doesn't mean I don't want it to be better if the potential is there). But the MPC development is frustrating to watch, especially when someone like JJ is churning out OS updates for LONG-retired MPC models, and adding functionality that helps with the actual manipulation and composition of samples, sequences, programs and songs.
