How did the professional beatmakers do it. I know mad kats just have studio recorded drum samples pre saved on disk that they just load up and use but I don't work that way. I was curious to know who EQs their drums before they sample. Like do you create an EQ band to accomodate the kick drums before sampling or do you just sample drum breaks and such dry as normal and then EQ later on during the mixdown phase. I always wondered about that. See I performed at the Beat Society show in Philadelphia and we could only bring a max of 2 pieces of equpment. A lof of kats had drums that sounded like they were EQ'd out the wazu and compressed like hell with no post mixing gear. It was odd. I was like the only person there that had drums that knocked but weren't nearly as loud. I thought it was odd that they were able to produce such a sound coming directly out of the samplers. They were using mpc-2000xl and sp-1200's and asr-10s....but still.
Anyhow. Does anybody know of any interviews or videos that show pro beatmakers like pete rock or premo working on a beat. I've seen premiers set up in a photo a while back and he had his compressor chilling above his rack with effx and mixing console and the s950 off to the right of him and shit. It was insane. Anyway. There is a blizzard outside i'm really cold and i'm in the basement typing thsi shit. it's freeeezzzing . someone get back to me when you can i'll check tonight .....i'm outty peaceee. and thanks for the tips...and or suggestions....
