recording MIDI - overdub

if you overdub events after the whole sequence has looped,
i thought it would replace already recorded events?

in the list editor you'll see double events on the exact same time - but you don't see these in the grid, even if you zoom in extremely

and you record from another (quantised) sequencer
the recorded notes should be bang on, no?
well, they are not
they are off (late) 06 ticks

Overdub means you ''dub'' over what already is recorded. So no, it doesn't replace over already recorded events.

Your other question is too vague for me and would need more info to anwers (which sequencer, how is everything connected, etc).

On his last question....Latency may be an issue?

If you have an external sequencer with midi out that can't be the issue.. But he's too vague..

then you could stack up the same note over and over again ??

re the sequencer,it is an EMU Command station, which is known to have a very musical timing (192 ppqn)
-of course the internal timing is displayed as bang on the beat (1:00:00) but when i send it to the MPC it is recorded a few ticks late(r)
i will test with a few other sequencer if i get consistant numbers (of latency in the MPC)

I am pretty sure that the MPC is the issue. It sends timing signals at the start - the midi-attached instruments are correcting the timing accordingly and a glitch happens. If the MPC (I use the X) is slave I found no issue.
My countermeasure is to have Sequence 1 to carry all midi setups but NO notes. The sequence is very short (e.g. 4 beats) to synchronize all instruments and select the programs and settings of the attached instruments. Switching parameters are causing glitches too.

The only solution would be a constant midi clock running to keep everything all the time in sync. But this will not happen, as NO Akai instrument had this (to my knowledge...)

can you store sysex in your sequence 1?
in this case, no patches or PC send either way, only MIDI note data

the MPC4000 has a very very stable & steady clock, even when it is sending constantly (also when stopped) MIDI timing info
(great to have your delays, LFO's etc syncronized from the first beat)
