Syncing MPC Live to Reaper

Hey everyone! Longtime lurker in need of some help.

My friend and I are working on a project. We want to use our MPC Live for samples and sequencing our synthesizers. We are going to be tracking everything into Reaper. Is there a way to set it up so that when I hit record in Reaper, the current sequence on the MPC starts playing? We’re trying to figure out the easiest way to have everything sync up to make it easier to do overdubs and add/change stuff as we go. I’ve been looking all over the place trying to figure this out. It isn’t a dealbreaker, but it would make life a little easier. Right now we’re using it in standalone.

Read my post below about the Akai Network MIDI driver. It works perfect for this, I just finished tracking a bunch of shit in Logic this way this weekend. Get a cheap class-compliant USB ethernet adapter though, the Wifi connection on the MPC SUCKS for sync. Its pretty easy to setup despite Akai not really giving anyone directions on how to do it with anything other than the Ableton Live Control crap.

Do you have an audio interface with a 5 pin midi input?

Yea, what Charles wrote. I wrote a long post last night on how to rock the Mpc in standalone with midi cables, but I noticed you were asking about reaper, which I know nothing about.

It’s pretty easy to sync the Mpc and a computer but I was unsure if doing so gives you the ability to control the Mpc within reaper. Worked fine for me even before the ableton link stuff,( with ableton) but you do need a sound card nd or some extra midi ports.

I like what MONO is doing. However, if someone wants consistency with the least amount of hiccups. Connecting via 5 PIN to and audio interface with 5 Pin is best options. The truth is most people don't want to assign IP address to sync their music.

Tbh- the few times I used ableton link it was rock solid on the three devices I was running it on. Very impressive level of technology, even for my Luddite azz.

Now the power in having a nice sound card, Mpc, and dope controller keyboard driving some other external boxes AND vsts/ keygroup/ Mpc plug-ins was insane.

Still working on getting my setup fully integrated as we speak. Get to spend a chinch of this weekend to organize my shit.
Like spring cleaning mixed with a new little project setup.
