Mine, drums have unorthodox timing I've been told. Sounds good but sometimes don't hit on expected ticks.

That's a feel I create on purpose.

This dude put together a pretty handy book https://shittyrecording.studio and you can download the pdf version for free.

A ton of beat patterns, throw in swing and it'll keep you busy for a long time.

EDIT:

What’s funny is I can “read” these in my head, like, immediately. If someone can’t build from these then that person just might be a lost cause.

How much swing do you apply while you mentally listen to the patterns in the book :)
