Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

The POs never worked out for me liked I hoped, I was going to keep them on me in a satchel type bag so I can work on music whenever, but "I" personally was never able to massage anything worthwhile out of them. Fun yes, worth plugging into an interface to record to my computer and mix down? Nope.

They're cool for desktop collectable figurine type things. It's possible to get something out of it, but I rather use my smartphone, if I had to do something like that. The whole make music anywhere thing, is not for me.

Menco wrote:I won’t be using the Studio and software that much. I only use it to get everything I’ve done on the 2500 into Logic to use Logic and 3rd party plugins and VST. Minor tweaks will be done in the software, like changing the pitch of that kick 1 semitone, or adding an open hihat last minute. I had the Studio before, tried to get things going on the Live for over a year. I know this setup will be the best solution for my workflow.

Just get this, put it in your pocket, and click the button. :lo

Oh Yo that Korg is a done deal, lm bout to have some fun with that joint and the Live

Recording and chopping the sample, sequencing drums and the main loop and naming everything is for me a more efficient process on the 2500 than on the Live. When doing those basic tasks I don’t need a grid editor or other daw like features. When I make more of an old-school type beat I record trackmutes or sequence a B section/ hook to lay down the arrangement. Again, don’t need the daw like features here. So no need for me to do this in the MPC Live. The extra features are only a distraction in this part of the process. When I want to add FX, do more serious mixing, or more complex arranging or add VST’s, then I need the daw like features. But the mixer in the Live is imo way to inefficient, especially when it comes down to accessing and setting up the FX. Although I found the quality of the FX more than workable. Especially the AIR FX. Can’t move the FX around in the signal chain, something that I also missed. Complex arranging is also way eassier to do when having a dedicated arrangement window in a daw. Plus adding VST’s or instrument patches on the Live had to be done by importing or getting expansions. That put me off aswell. Also I find sequencing VST’s and building chords and melodies way more convinient than doing that on the Live. Mainly because the grid editor/ piano roll in Logic shits all over the Live’s editor/ piano roll. Never thought I would be into software sequencing, but it’s closer to the MPC flow than I expected. Set the loop, hit the ‘R’ and jam away on a midi keyboard. All my FX and superflexible mixer in one screen. Great overview of my arrangement in the other. All things the Live can not offer me.

Yeah its definitely possible, but I haven't gotten good enough, nor will comment the energy necessary to get good enough at it, the possibilities feel too finite, though that is also driven by my typical lack of sampling, if I sampled say drum loops, then I'm sure I could get much more mileage out of it. Chopping is pretty easy on there, but the drums feel weak, if I chopped drums instead of using the built in, there would be way more life.

Yep just about every other mpc looks better than the live/x modded or not the live is plain ugly and plastic!, i like the pads on it and that i can take it on the train but not much else, prefer my 2500 for work flow and 3000 for sound and as master sequencer for midi gear, def want wood trim for the 3000 tho, i feel the live is totally disposable and not something i will stick with for a long time once a newer model comes out , it has plenty good things about it but i dont warm to it and it crashes and glitches more than other mpcs. i did have mpc studio silver for awhile and was on par with the live and maybe better portability as gotta take laptop most places anyway but always feel the output volume on current mpcs is weak compared to any older ones which have nice punchy loud output.

The good part about the wooden sides is that it also upgrades the audio path, making drums sound more analog. #studiosecrets

But yeah, I had to remove my wooden sides on my 3000 because Rolex wristband scuffed it all up.

how does the wood siding affect the signal path? Is there bad grounding inside or something?

I'm already mystified enough by people's discussions about older MPCs sounding better, the output should sound like the input unless its been modified, but changing it to wood makes no sense. If its a joke, clue me in, if its real, explain.

I'm at the point of wanting an older MPC again (I had a barely touched MPC 1000 that I couldn't wrap my head around at the time), just to understand people's view point, the lack of modern convenience though makes it a hard no, I'm not dealing with compact flash cards or disk drives.

If you look at old audiophile forums you'll absolutely find posts about adding wood or other materials to the sides, knobs, buttons, whatever.... having an impact on audio quality. I suspect as 40Beatz says, it was a joke or sarcasm.

As far as the audio quality of various samplers, this is somewhat subjective and somewhat objective... however it is true that they all have differences in the audio to digital, and digital to audio paths. There are different parts, circuits, processes, what have you... that will all impart a character to the sound. Often this is subtle, but it sometimes can have a dramatic impact.
