Could we talk about the new MPC one?

But it should be updated as X and One, so it's ok.
Mpc Tutor scared us with the rumor that One will NOT have same firmware as other Mpcs, if I understand correctly they will put some limit so some features of X/Live would not be used with One.
Are they making different firmware for the different Mpcs?
Can this mean that X upgrades will not be same as Live upgrades?
And what if for example we put a Live upgrade on One?
Anyway I was sure this Namm they was unveiling an upgraded Mpc and they surprised me with a downgraded one.
But I am still sure a new Mpc is on work, maybe a X/Live XL or something like that.
Next Namm? 2021?

I don't think they'll change the production of the Live, for sure. Its current hardware implementation - which hasn't changed since launch day almost 3 years ago - will likely be the same until they stop production.

But I don't believe they'll terminate production and stop selling them anytime soon, not in 2020 at least. But by the time 2021 rolls around, the hardware - especially the CPU and RAM - is going to seem even longer in the tooth than it already is. But then again, so will the One, X, and Force...

The only solace we can take is that they'll have 4 staple products between them that all share the exact same OS, so even if Live (or any of the others) production is killed off and sales stop, we'll very much likely continue to receive software updates with new features and bug fixes for a bit.

I'm not naive to think that new hardware won't appear at some point that has a faster CPU, more RAM, better features, etc - and then we'll absolutely see software features appear on that new hardware only (and the current generation of the Live, X, Force, and One will no longer get updates), but that's how hardware manufacturing works, so no one should be surprised.

People making it sound like it's happening soon have lost the plot IMHO, though.

I think it's smarter to have the same firmware for all MPCs, but disable certain functionality based on the model MPC you have, which I believe is perfectly fine (and smart). In fact, it's what I would do as well - not only to "fit" the hardware capabilities, but also to entice ecosystem upgrades. And it keeps software maintenance down for them.

I agree with you, I think something new is in the works, I don't think it would be a new Live though, but I think a new Live is more plausible than an upgraded X. Heck I don't know. LOL

Yeah I have no idea when it will happen, but I think the One speaks clearly to the Live being the first to go (just the current version of it - maybe they'll find a way to shoehorn a new Live in between the others).

And about the OS shared between the models, yes, that's a definite plus, and a smart move by Akai.

I've personally owned the MPC Touch and MPC Live for almost a year. I've used the MPC X for roughly as long as I have the Touch/Live, as my friend bought one about the same time as I bought my Touch (later replaced by the Live), and working at my friends place allows me to leave my Live at home. I've used the MPC 60, MPC 3000, and MPC Ren in the past, though it's been years since I dabbled with them. The same friend that owns the X sold the Ren to buy it, and that was the last time the both of us had one in our possession.

If sales are stagnate, software updates will cease. I wouldn't doubt that MPC 3.0 will be paid update. The X, One, Live, Force have the same software. But since they have different button layouts and I/O. They have to tweak each machine separately. It's not an one update fixes them all, type of scenario.

That is the issue, with having different hardware formats, that share similar code.

So in short, you've owned the touch and live. Also I asked about you, not this so called friend. Also, why leave your live at home, when it has a BATTERY!

I just hope Live users will have updates as X and One, even if Live will be discontinued.
The situation is quite confusing after One released.
But yeah, I am also quite sure Live production will be over soon.
And I am not downgrading to One of course, maybe One is a smart marketing move but not from the point of view of an Mpc user.
I am wondering if they are going to make audio through usb, since just a stereo output on an Mpc is a PITA.

If you use the @QuickStrike method, you can use audio over usb.

I'm pretty confident that Live users will enjoy the same updates as X and One users if production stops, for quite a bit. There's no evidence to suggest that won't be the case, so I wouldn't worry.

Yeah, I have no intent of getting a One. The Live does everything it can do plus more (with the exception of the CV jacks). Just seems redundant to pick one up for my use.
