Copied from another forum. Not sure how much credibility this has but found it interesting.

I really want to start out my hardware collection with a all in one Groovebox type purchase. After weeks of obsessive reading, it has boiled down to the MPC One versus the Akai Force. ( I was originally looking at the MPC Live, but three UK retailers have confirmed to me that it is being discontinued and that they won't be stocking anymore).

Of course it's discontinued.
I wrote it a month ago, everyone was mocking me but it was already clear before One was released.
If it doesn't appear on Thomann anymore, it means they don't produce it anymore and this happened a month ago.
If it was just out of stock, it would appear anyway and you could make a preorder.

Sounds about right. But they'll still support it until they don't. Their manufacturing and marketing campagin rapped down on the LIVE and X, for some time. They released the Force and started releasing gold variants of the LIVE and X, was is a clear indicator.

The LIVE is no longer in production, they're just shipping out all remaining MPC units. Depending on the deals they have with particular stores, most consignment contracts units are being shipped back, to make space for the MPC ONE.

Maybe they have last units to sell, and this would also explain the price drop.
Usually if Thomann doesn't even have it on the site page, not even for preorder, it means it's not produced anymore.
Let's see.

Wow if in fact the Live is discontinued. I can see the Touch as the Live is an upgrade. The One is not an upgrade to the Live, so I'd be a bit confused by that. How long they continue to support it will play a part in me investing in the next gen.

I think it will be updated until they come out with 2nd generation Mpc, maybe a X/Live with more ram and new cpu.
I don't believe Live was a bad selling unit, I think the opposite. And One is not a replacement of Live but just a cheap downgrade of it.

Support for LIVE should be at least 2 more years. Free updates will be another story. But 5 years is a good run for a drum machine.
