hello people! i was away for years after selling my last mpc.
in the past i've been active in the 4k and 1k\2.5k section (i owned 2000xl, 4000, 1000 and 2500 with and without jjos2xl). in the last years i've been doing mostly eurorack stuff with a short elektron moment (md, mm and octa).
i'm now seriously thinking about gettin' an mpc again (i miss them so much!) and i'm seriously undecided between a Live and a 1k with jj again.
i'm really tempted by the new ones but i'm afraid i might miss some of my old workflow.
one of the things i used very often when writing fast intricate breakbeats is the step record function.
to elaborate: when you hit record but not play, the sequencer is stopped but you are able to enter notes via pads and move forward\backward in 1/16 (or other grid resolutions) with the arrow buttons. is the live capable of doing it?
if not, is it in the feature requests already?
thanks for all the infos!
feels nice to be back :)

also a couple other questions:
1)any possibility to have different track lengths in one sequence? lets say, drums 4 bars, bass 8 bars, synth 5 bars? polyrhythm\polymetrics ?
2)is there a function to jump from sequence X to sequence Y in a quantized way and mid sequence? (i mean the same as legato mode for clips in ableton live, a feature that on jjos is called "immediate play")?
3)old akai libraries from s1000 and on era are still supported? any issues with them?

1) yeah, 4 is a factor of 8... 5 is not a factor of 4 or 8, so make a sequence length of 8x5 or 40.

2) maybe? I mean a simple 'hack' would be to make shorter sequences 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2 or whatever and just change them in order?

3) they load, but some of the data doesn't carry over, algorithms are not exactly the same, different fx... what have you. so this totally depends on how complicated the program is. One shots for drums will come over fine, a not too complicated piano program ought to work, but there are plenty of things that may not make the jump well such as single cycle or heavily looped samples... heavy use of envelopes, etc... may work fine but also may not sound the same.

ok so no immediate play function for next sequence (damn, this is a live performance show stopper...)
no different track lengths...(maybe with clip programs? not clear from the manual)
and it seems no step record feature but this too is unclear from the manual.
can someone please confirm by trying it on their live or X? just hit rec, no play, and try to enter notes via pads, please.

is there an official feature request list in the forums?

thanks Neartao, a bit disappointing that features that are stable in jj since more than 10 years have not been ported.
