Hi Silly Cybin. I am a heavy user of the Virus. Compatibility is on standard MIDI base. I am a typical standalone user. I never use the desktop software - MPCX is my standalone studio.
- Standard functionality works fine - Stop Start Hold Record SysEx etc.
- If you use MIDI IN and OUT between the Virus and the MPC make sure to set the arpeggiator of the Virus to OFF - else you get a MIDI loop - you do not want - except if you use it as a artistic method.
- the Virus is slow on getting the right timing from the MPCs. But the Virus is NOT the root cause of the issue. The issue is the MPCX. It sends the MIDI clock only if you start playing or recording. My Korg M3 sends a constant MIDI clock from the Karma if it is the MIDI master. This keeps all tools in sync. If you need to have the MPC as master, you need to have a pre-sequence of a bar or two before the "song" starts to give the system a chance to synchronize. I add also the program of the Virus voice (and of course of all other MIDI tools I use).
