It would still work for the MPC ONE on the Midi Input. All they need to do is give the option to layer programs in program edit. The same way they do pads. That way, I can have Program 1 Piano and go into Program Edit and layer Program 2 strings and Program 3 Voice.

I didn't even know piano players used tilted benches! I love learning here!!

This place can get pretty hostile, actually, and mods apparently really don't mind. The behavior from some of the older members here is downright embarrassing, so express away. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I think somebody say something about audio interface. Can somebody tell me what audio interface they work with the MPC in standalone? I see people mention it but I never find a tread where they talk about it.

Are you asking how to hook up an audio interface to the MPC One/Live/X while in standalone?

Nothing new then

Yeah of course standalone. I think I read about a guy using the Zoom L12 but he could only see 4 input on the X/Live(I guess)

I said -6db just as an example number. There is no perfect number, for mastering. Just don't use peak limiters or allow the peaks to hit 0 dBFS. It really comes down to how the tracks is suppose to make you feel. If you follow the number to close, you can lose power and emotion.

If the song is about love and caressing your partner. I don't want a Death Metal meet EDM meet POP record levels. I tend to stay between -6 and -4 for my overall mix. My goal in mixing is to make the mastering engineer job easy. Some EQing, light compression, and make sure the music translate across different mediums.

The MPC One meters are a bit off, for my taste.

Mpc Live metering (and I guess also One) is also a bit strange. I just touch the red slightly on Mpc but I use Mpc differently then you. I connect it to a mixer and then the mixer in firewire to computer when I want to record.
So your -6 makes no sense for me. When all goes into studio1 to record, is still low even at unity level on the mixer.
But that was not the point.
I was talking about the quality of the output in One, the question was about the output stage, converters, impedance and so on.
My question was if One has exactly same specs of the output and so if it does sound the same.

To my knowledge, the MPC doesn't "officially" support it, but if that user was running the Zoom L12 in USB class-compliant mode (which normally only works for iOS and Macs), maybe that helped. No clue.

TheDoctor wrote:But you want something because you feel the need of right? If I need something I need something because that's how I work and I need those heavy multisample otherwise why even ask if it's just an extra option? It won't even be on my head.
If I would like something else from my girl it means I'm not 100% happy with her. Somebody could say "but if she does that will be much more enjoyable" and my point is why are you with that girl? Why you didn't get the girl with the characteristics you prefer so you won't need any change?

What I mean is you do music as I do and you as me enjoy doing music right? Why would I buy a device that will bring me a wish I can't have it, that's not enjoyable at all. I mean the X and Live have few years, so basically everytime you want use your big multisample you end up to face the reality of your device and you can't do what you want to do. I'm not saying you can't do music but you can't do music as you want it because you will use those big multisample. Why put yourself in this situation? You buy something to make your life easier not to have another annoying limitations to work with, especially after all the money you spent for an MPC, hell no!
You're recreating an argument and then debating it.

No, I want something that would make a process more enjoyable, more efficient, easier, etc. To use your words, if I want another option, it would be on my mind and I'd express it to other users (that's in part why some of us are here) and to the developer (so they'd consider adding it).

I bought a device closest to what I wanted and enjoy it as is. My dream drum machine / sequencer does not yet exist, but I don't sit here sulking over it. I supplemented my Live with my DAW and make music. And I enjoy it. I simply like using the Live and wish I could use it for more.

If you stop trying to spin folk's words to make your argument easier, it would make more sense to you. I come to converse, not win arguments, so maybe it's easier for me to understand and accept how others work. Sometimes I learn something and add it to my workflow. Either way, it's all interesting, which is why I come here.

Yeah let's all come down. Who cares, come on.
Let's here about the small brother One, it's more interesting.
Forums are crazy places for crazy people, and Mpc users are the most crazy, with all those pads and colours, like a videogame ahah

Wait a sec a miss something here. If your MPC is at unity gain on your mixer how is that low when you record? I mean your mixer show the signal at unity gain before it goes in StudioOne, how this is related to the output of your MPC and not about your mixer?

On the manual they don't look the same.
Live main output
113db
THD+N 0.002%
Max out +9dbu
Sensitivity 51

Live additional output
116db
THD+N 0.001%
Max out +9dbu
Sensitivity 51

One output
113db
THD+N 0.003%
Max out +9dbu
Sensitivity 12

For the input
Live
113.5db
SNR 108db
THD+ 0.001%
Max input +11dbu
Sensitivity - 13.5dbu
Gain range 24.5dbu

Instead the One
111db
SNR 111db
THD+ 0.001%
Max input +16dbu
Sensitivity - 13.5dbu
Gain range 29.5db

So mainly they're the same apart the low impedance for the output of the One(I don't like this). But the input has a bigger headroom than the Live. Still both way less hotter than the X.

Hope this help.

Yeah of course. But I generally find that at - 12/18db the fader give me the best control so generally what I do is make my song arrangement, bounce everything in stem and then make sure every elements is around that range of db, pull everything down and then I start to mix.

Are you tracking in at those levels as well?

TheDoctor wrote:I rarely use compressor, I generally use parallel compression for drums but that's it. Often I don't even side chain because I rarely play on the grid so my elements has time to "breath" and if I need sidechain I generally do volume automation, a touch of eq, done.

I have a good relationship with my master engineer so if the mix sucks he will simply tell me because he knows how I see my music and I give him completely freedom to "colour" my songs.

Same here, I send stems over so he can adjust it. If I don't trust them, I don't use them. I don't want to hear that I'm right. I want to hear the best sound. But my mixes are pretty close when I send them. So he doesn't have to do much, unless it for vinyl.

TheDoctor wrote:How off is the meter on the One?

The levels are correct, it's just the size of them, compared to the screen.

Yeah, player are very fickle about it. You have to be, when you sit for long periods of time. That's why I advocate for good posture.

Thanks for listing the numbers, it's always nice to read. The good thing, is that in real life situation they're close enough to not notice a difference. Do you have the MPC X numbers.

I generally quickly check on the MPC, export and then I use a Gain tool if I need a boost in Ableton. But honestly after years I kind of get around those db naturally because I'm used to.
Sometimes when I use outboard gear I track with my audio interface directly because I want avoid as much as I can the A/D D/A.
The reason why I use -12/18db is because as far as I know it's basically 0db in the analog world and I think a lot of plugin(like real hardware) give the best around that range.

CharlesRandolph wrote:

Yeah I didn't notice anything weird about levels. But what you mean" it's just the size of them"?

Kind of because with the X the difference is a bit more noticeable, I always prefer hot output because I gain less noise and I love overdrive the filter of my synth, also an hotter signal give me the possibility to bring a channel into modular and blend with it.
Especially input, if they don't have high impedance and headroom is really annoying record modular stuff, it's also true that I don't have a module to bring the volume at human level  but I directly go from the VCA to the input :smoker:

I'm not at home now sorry but if you check the manual before the update list you have specs for every new MPC.

First off disk streaming is one thing that was talked about. Biggest thing is AKAI CLEAN UP THE FU***ING GLITCHES! From PDC to standalone.

You asked what if? Bro if disk streaming is messup up its Akai's fault not ours they are the ones doing it. There shouldn't be drop outs while disk streaming. That's one of the joys. Enough ram and DS plugins like Omnisphere which is heavy on CPU, you will be able to open up many instances without your computer blowing up.

As l explained the software on the computer and lm talking about Akais software and l did say also what if people want it in standalone. Orchestral sounds can work in standalone on the MPC, l don't know what you're talking about. Tutor sells it.

There is no 8 gigs of ram what are you talking about?
As you know lm a big advocate for more ram. Ive always said Akai should have put 4Gig but optional to be able to add more ram up to 128Gigs.

I want people to enjoy their MPC
Frisbi wrote:
And what if disk streaming results in dropouts or things like that?
What if it screws up Mpc architecture and put conflicts and more problems then it solves?
I mean, you all talk about it like it was a sort of magic stick that will put Mpc on another level.
I am not against it or for it, I just think that you all should consider that if Akai didn't make it, there must be a reason.
I also noticed that Roland didn't put sd streaming on new Mc, even if Sp404 definitely had it.
So are you sure it could only have benefits?
And then, if you talk about disk streaming, why you talk about controller mode? Controller mode uses computer cpu. It would not change anything if you use Mpc in controller mode,
And I repeat, with 8gb Ram nobody would talk about disk streaming.
