my pads are acting funny--in desperate need of help

Okay, my pads are really acting weird.
Every once in a while, they just stop responding. When i press a pad, it either doesnt work, or i have to bang on it REALLY hard (i play football, so i dont think that's such a good idea).

Thats not the weirdest part:

when i tap on the side of it (literally, the sides), or pick it up and slightly drop it, it randomly plays one of the pads. Sometimes that gets it back to working, most of the time it doesnt.

what the hell is going on??
is it expensive (as most of you who have helped me before, it's nearly impossible for me to pay for anything)?? or is it something relatively easy to fix?

my mpc had similar behaviour when i bought it second hand, only a few pads where not working well though. when i opened it up to clean the pads i found out the flatcable (don't know if it's the good word) was not well connected. if you remove the cover (top, not bottom) of the mpc the connector is at the left bottom side of the pads. i hope this helps.

so all i do is push in the connector (i bought mine second hand, too)??
my pads arent really dirty, tho (i'll clean em anyway)

i hope it does the trick. be carefull when opening you'r mpc so you don't break the case or any parts inside.
the connector can be fastened and opened by sliding it (really hard to explain), try too loosen the cable and put is back in

I posted that last post before i saw you already tried to fix the cable. Well the connector that the flat cable (more an extention to the sheet that holds the contacts of the pads) goes into is a connector on the board next to it.
This connector slides open if you pull the outer part (i think you can grab it from the sides). This releases the cable so you can refit it, if it is not put in well this might cause your problem. After you put the cable back in as straight as possible you can close the connector by pushing the outer part back into place (opposite to when you slid it open). I tried to find some images but coulnd't find one.

i am getting extremely impatient. I dont wanna spend a million and a half buck on new pads. Is there anyway i can just use a keyboard via midi, assign and trigger the samples that way? I want to make a beat....NOW

EPR will fix it for about 300 to 400 bucks, i took the easy way out and got it repaired, plus i waited 4 months for the black piece connecter to get there, it needs repair and if i was you, i will get it repaired, The Mpc are worth the money to repaired, and if you can buy another second hand like i did, just in case one breaks down, Peace.

pads itself only cost about 25 bucks but seems like you need to replace the pressure sensors. maybe the previous owner spilled something on it?

i paid 300 buck for it. What i need is somebody to look at it and see what's wrong before i spend another $300; and 4 months fixing it.

Why is an mpc 2000xl so expensive AFTER buying it? I gotta buy cables, then i gotta buy adapters, then i gotta buy a keyboard. Pretty soon ima have to buy a mixer, and then an m-box for pro-tools. then, another "better" turntable.

Tell me what all the fuss is about???

homeboy these cats are misinforming u. u have to break in the mpc. there is a certain way to hit the pad. its a quick slap with the tip of ur finger. Everyone here has had the same problem as u and its just the learning curve. ive seen like 8 posts on here sayin the same thing if u dont believe me. Just keep practicing. its like learning how to finger a guitar or anyother insturment. just takes time. u can hit the pads real hard and it wont break it. also try puttin FULL LEVEL on. if u strike a pad with it off, u have to hit it real hard or it will casue the problems u are describing. just keep practing though. this is ur first beat so u got a long long way homes.

yep, I use FULL LEVEL 90% of the time. That means no matter where you hit the pad it plays the sound at the highest volume.

I did do full level. i tap them soft, it doesnt play. if i hit them hard it doesnt play. But when i bang the side of the fking thing, it plays half the sounds assigned to the pads. For instance, i would assign a kick to one of the pads, a hat on another, a snare on another, and a few guitar licks on the others. If I tap the pads, they dont play. if i hit either side of the machine, several of those pads will play. Now, did anybody have that problem before? or am i just alone in this venture?

and by the way, its a used mpc. so i dont think there's anymore "breaking in" needed.
