Formatting hard drive/looking for computer issues

Ok, so my akai mpc live will not connect to the software, it says "looking for computer" indefinitely. I'm trying to format an ssd.

Here's what I've done- I've reviewed this forum and seen others have had this problem, and in those posts the info has been super helpful. I've purchased a new windows computer, successfully downloaded the newest version. During installation I chose "mpc live" as instructed. Registered, did the ilok stuff- all that crap. Everything seems successful. Program launches fine.

When I plug my mpc live in and try to go to controller mode, it says "looking for computer". I've tried all the different sequences - with opening the software first, after, plugging in different USB cables at different times, everything that has been suggested in this forum. Still nothing.

While watching videos about this I have seen people look in disk management and format from there- but it doesn't show up in mine. The sd card did show up tho- so the computer is recognizing the mpc somewhat. Is it possible my ssd is just bad? Or possible I messed something up plugging it in? It did seem kinda tight when I put the screws back in.

Just as a note- I am trying to use this as a standalone replacement to my current system- a MacBook Pro running cubase 5 with about 100 different hardware synths, drum machines, samplers, and gizmos. So it's pretty ridiculous that just to format a hard drive in this standalone unit I've had to buy a new computer, for software I don't plan on ever using. When and if I do finish this, I plan on giving the pc to my son to destroy with minecraft TNT. Also, just in case you are wondering- I can't use the Mac for this because in order to use the akai software I have to upgrade my os to a version incompatible with the version of cubase I use. Terrible. One of the reasons I am trying to avoid using computers is because of this type of crap.

Also, every time I try and disconnect I get messages about possibly messing up the file system on the live, and after the last time when I tried to shut it down it gave me error messages saying it recovered from an error? It wouldn't shut off twice, but the third time it did.

Had the same issue. Had to make sure the Live is on latest firmware and software is also updated with right drivers and it should work.

I don't know if that will help you but you have to make sure that the demo content and the factory sample packs are all still available on the mpc live internal storage, otherwise it will behave wierd..
