Saving for 3000 or 4000?

That’s why the vast majority of us are trying to steer you to the newer stuff. With the new stuff you have everything to get you started from samples, a way to share your beats, and without the limitations of say the 2000xl. Yes they have cheesy lights and a different look but that can all be turned off or customized.

You can learn on the older units but the learning curve will be steeper and you will need other gear to share your work.

Don’t take any of our opinions the wrong way we all been there, younger/ new to music, etc. just trying to help you along your way instead of getting discouraged or going down a path of gear lust.

We’re here to help. Just let us know what you’re trying to do. What ever your choice get the MPC bible here for whichever unit, you will thank us big time for that suggestion.


Second the MPC one. I would have killed for that as my first MPC. Which ironically was the OG mpc 2000. hated it compared to all the rest in fact much preferred the asr with no pads.... Had the 4000 but after awhile with out the upgraded tech that I stopped making beats. With the live I really started to understand my workflow, the mpc architecture, and just music production in a whole new light.

I’m still pretty much a newbie even after 20 years messing with this stuff, but it was because I had no proper guidance.

Thank you for sticking w my stubborn ass , I really am trying to like the newer ones and tbf the One actually looks alright if it weren't for the screen and its positioning, thing is gonna make me the hunchback from 300 after a year.

MPC X would be dope but 2 expensive.

Live is offputting as hell, and is about twice the price of a fully expanded 2KXL on facebook / offerup and several hundreds over a 4K. The form factor and battery life aren't really that much of priorities as im tryna make this a sit in center piece of a home studio not some shit I take around the park or outside lol. Imagine just yanking that (extra pts if its the gold edition) outside and someone sees u. better Believe someone desperate enough is yanking that.---- Not that i live in a ghetto or anything but there be hella sketchy people in Portland. Again , not taking it outside.

I guess what im trying to say is I cannot justify the price / feature disparities compared to the older ones. I mean ffs even the 2KXl had a screen that went up.

It just does not look like it for me. And this is me on board with X, again just the cost. Not tryna dick ride the old head gear but jesus I just hear about bugs, samples being deleted, and battery issues on the Live. IDk man It seems like a lot of people like the newer stuff i just can't get with it.

You can get stands to get the angle you want. The live sees more use for me moving around my house seamlessly. Like from the couch to a desk to my computer type deal, one would be the same. Just with a cord.

Have you thought about a force? Yea it’s not a mpc, but those features are there, even the vintage modes. Smokes your brothers sp-808 by a lot. Take it into consideration, if it’s something you’re legit interested in hit me up. I’ll match the price of the one and hold the money for a month. I’m not offering this to anyone else, so don’t try hitting me up for this deal. I’m taking a huge loss as I paid more than twice that for the force and the stand.

I guess so, but I feel like if the machine serves you for several years before the NV slider breaks or some tact switch goes bad, you can excuse it.

For how much? Maxed out included the FX card? If the seller is adding 150 to the price just cause of the card, I'd say wait for a better offer. 2ks show up for cheap often.

That why I change it all when I get it. I want every knob, button, switch, input/output, sensor, to work. It's always a good Idea to change it all, that way I don't have to keep opening it up.

It's about Preventive maintenance, because I simply can't trust, those who had it before me. I don't know how many machines that was listed as smoke free, but I get it and open it up and find ashes everywhere.

Tip when buying used: Open it up and clean it outside. You don't know what is living in there.

Im on the verge of greatness, boutta cop this MPC 4000 with multi fx and iB8 expansion (no adat or ib4p) BUT i pressed the guy and while he was able to tell me the boards installed, he wasn't definitive on the hard disk, only saying there wasn't one "in the floppy spot".

What I mean is, he asked first "is that the floppy bay" to which I said yes, and he said it is not there, only Im worried he could be confusing the Hard Disk inside for CD drive bay

my question is, for a bay that would take floppy disks (like 2000xl) what is most similar to that size and shape? Would it be the CD R or Hard disk. I want to know what I would need to install should I order this

ask him to go into the load or save screen. It’s been awhile but it should list how much room is free. Ask him to send pic, there’s also a way to see what boards are installed you may want time to take a pic of that too.
