I haven't read the MPC 4k manual in a while... but I do recall (possibly incorrectly) that the Z4/8 manual was a lot easier to read. Clearly the Z series doesn't have a sequencer, but it does have the same sample engine as the 4k... so it might be worthwhile reading up on the Z4/8 while you're getting to grips with the 4k.

Agree, the Z4/Z8 and 4000 we're really made to paired together. I chose to use 2 MPC 4000's because I didn't like the screen of the Z4 and Z8. Plus there were more advantages, of using two 4K.
